But this bit of Templot history, first posted here on May 7th 2002, goes back a lot further: WEST MERCIAN EM GROUP NEWSLETTER, SEP 1980" Our last meeting, held at Broadwas Village Hall on 7th Sep 1980, was one of the liveliest we have had. Ten members were present and among matters discussed were.... [snipped]........A most interesting development was then described by Martin Wynne. Neville Fairbairn had asked Martin for help in setting out a turnout from a curved road. From this request Martin had gone on to devise a system for enabling any turnout to be drawn out on 1mm graph paper by even the most inexperienced. Given the radius of the main line, the crossing angle and switch type, Martin can supply the X and Y co-ordinates of the rail running face at every chair position. From this data it is easy to construct a turnout template ...

Once I've had a cup of tea, I will try as you suggest. I now realise, that I should have read more carefully, your earlier log notes on the TDV development. I must take the time out to cobble up a crib sheet of all the key facilities now incorporated in the TDV for quick reference purposes. Apologies for taking you away from your coding. This is also why shunt movements make more use of audible warnings when moving about- i.e. they whistle or honk). This also means that Colour Light and Position Light signals are useless from this point of view- they cannot be read from the back... Which is why modern practice has had to develop a more cautious approach. Talking of greater caution if/when anyone has to work in the 6ft area between platforms- it is simply possible- and wise- to tell the Signalman/Signaller and arrange for the work to be protected by the Fixed Signals. Doing this has become increasingly common. It can be that a Signalman will tell whoever wants to work that they need (will have to) wait until a movement has been completed. Alternatively a movement may be held on a signal until any (urgent) ...

... a simple task from the outside is quite a complex one internally. Because it is purely a cosmetic/friendly change (i.e. Templot works perfectly well with the default settings, and they can be changed each time if it's essential) it has tended to get pushed down the list below the need for more track functionality and Help material. The demand for the grid settings to be saved was so great that I have now included them in the .box file, which is not the best place for them. I need to develop an extensible profiling option for all the hundreds of different settings in Templot, but it's not a 2-minute job. When I originally developed Templot it was purely for my own use, so many of the colours, fonts, etc., were simply hard-coded in as those that suited me. So at present you can change almost everything in Templot, but on start-up it reverts to the default hard-coded settings. Some time ago I asked group members for a shortlist of settings for a ...

Rodding/wire conduit to reach it through the platform somehow? The signal seems to have a linkage into the platform at its base. Assuming it doesn't run along the surface there must be some way of routing it under the platform surface. In later pictures the signal has gone so it could explain the apparent unused/unconnected status of the object. I think this is developing into a mystery on par with the Rossetta stone. Regards. ... :59 from: Martin Wynne Hi Bill, A further change I think you need to make is to change the V-crossing on the first LH turnout (49) to curviform pattern. Otherwise you have an unsightly reverse curve in the vee splice rail. Put the peg on CTRL-0 first. You can use make branch track to link it back in to existing tracks. Very often when the curving is negative like this a change to curviform is needed. To complete the tandem may I suggest you join the development group? The TDV includes the option of using a partial gaunt turnout for the middle V-crossing, which is much easier to adjust.
