... . I feel we have a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of Templot here. Templot is a tool to create templates to your specification, it doesn't contain any before you start. Slips, tandems and 3-throws are complex formations which can be created in infinite variety on the prototype by combining different components at different angles and radii. Templot works the same way. A single slip is a diamond-crossing to which 3 additional components have been added, two slip switches and a slip road. The diamond-crossing itself comprises two half-diamond templates. So the full thing requires 5 partial templates in all: slip_road.png There is a tutorial showing how to create this in straight or curved track at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/pug_slips.htm I'm sorry the tutorial is well out of date for Templot2 -- the basics are still the same but many of the tutorials are waiting for me to rewrite them, if I can ever find the time. If you are looking for a track design program where you can simply pick and place ...

Still no ghosts? 12. note that while you are using make the control, you don't need to press INSERT at all. Just keep clicking on the background template which you want to change, and let the previous one be stored automatically each time. 13. it is only when you have created an additional template that you need to press INSERT to add it to the background templates comprising your track plan. 14. now repeat all of that from the start, but this time click delete to the control each time. Note that in this case no background templates get created automatically, and if you want to keep the changes to the control template you need to press INSERT each time before deleting the next one to the control. The make the control function simply does that for you in case you forget, and to speed things up. I hope this helps. Ask again if it's not clear. ...

... topic: 2550 DCC question posted: 9 Oct 2014 15:20 from: Ed Callaghan I have a Lenz 100 DCC system comprising LH100 keypad, LZV100 command station and TR150 transformer. The LZV100 is not marked with any version number but I bought the kit new from MacKay Models in 2005. As of a few days ago, whenever I turn it on the red light on the LZV100 flashes rapidly and nothing runs. I suspected a short-circuit but couldn't find any, and the flashing still occurs even when I disconnect the LZV100 from the track. The manual on the Lenz website says at page 38 this is due to either incorrect connection (which I've checked) or "overheating of amplifier". I don't know what an amplifier is (in this context!) but assume it's a component of the LZV100. And presumably overheating isn't the issue because the problem is there from cold. I'd be grateful to know if anybody has had this problem or knows how to cure it, or do I need a new LZV100? posted: ...

First of all the most important thing for American users to understand is that in the UK and Templot, a "switch" is only that part of a turnout comprising the moving points. We don't call the whole thing a "switch". Also, a "frog" is normally called a "crossing" or a "common crossing" or a "V -crossing": startup_pad.png A switch is also sometimes called a "set of points". The design and construction of such track is called "S &C work" or just "S &C" (switches and crossings, not sit and chat ), or sometimes "pointwork". Many modellers in the ...

Whilst it's true that I've come on a long long way from those early days with Templot ,to my slight frustration I couldn't re create the first of the two diamonds at the north end of the platforms(top right on the plan) that comprise the line from the down Platform across the upline to the goods shed. I've been able to create diamonds else where but none of these has been on a transition curve. Do I need to first make a turnout, get that aligned and then create a half diamond after that? Can anyone give me some pointers or tell me where I can read up on this(ideally an illustrated version as I'm not too good with just words alone!) I've attached my current box file. This most commonly occurs in a double junction, where a curved diverging route crosses the adjacent track of a straight main route. Such irregular diamonds are in the queue of developments for a future Templot upgrade. In fact the code is already written, and has been for several years. The delay is caused by the need for a suitable user interface and Help texts. Here's a preview from my development version of Templot, showing a curved ladder comprising all irregular diamonds. This was created with just a few clicks on the tools> make ladder menu item: irreg_ladder.png If your track plan calls for irregular diamonds, I suggest that you leave them as overlaid plain tracks in the meantime, in the hope that this function will be available in Templot by the time that you actually need to build them. ... bit more what you are asking? As far as I know Exactoscale do not supply any computer software, so the question of compatible file formats does not apply. Users of Exactoscale track products usually need a printed track template on which to build them. Exactoscale supply a limited range of straight templates in P4 only, but for other gauges, curved turnouts and complex formations many users print a template from Templot instead. You can print directly from Templot if you have a printer connected to your system. A track plan would typically comprise several pages, which are printed with alignment and trim marks. Alternatively you can export a PDF file from Templot which can then be printed on any system. More specifically, you can export a PDF track plan as a single page several feet long, which can be taken or sent to a digital copyshop and printed in one piece on a wide-format roll-paper printer. You can do the same thing with exported DXF files from Templot for a CAD printshop dealing with engineering drawings. cheers, Martin. posted ...

... is concerned sudden changes of radius, for example from straight to sharply curved or especially reverse curves, need to be avoided at least for running lines if not in sidings and yards. But such things are easily created and often seen in train set layouts using set-track, and obviously work for RTR models. The DXF format used for Templot exports is an ancient text-based version. As far as the rail edges and track centre-lines are concerned there is only one object type- LINE. All curves are comprised of short line segments, so there is no radius information to be extracted. Because of the typical radii of handbuilt model track, and the limited resolution of printers, the ink dots actually end up in the same place on the paper, provided the line segments are short enough. I suggest you export some designs from Templot in DXF format and open the file in a text editor such as Notepad++ (free from http://notepad-plus-plus.org/). You will then be able to see for ...
