... topic: 2084 Dale Junction revised again posted: 21 Oct 2012 13:23 from: PeterD For reference: Original topic: topic 1836. The attached plan is very loosely based upon the Bath Green park in the station area. I have somewhat simplified the layout to reduce the dimensions but it should provide the essence of the operation. Intended operation Down passenger trains run into the Arrival Platform from the main line. Branch passenger trains use a branch platform or can be routed to the Arrival Platform across the up/down main running lines at the station throat. When passenger trains arrive, the locomotive is de-coupled and runs round the train to reach the engine shed area for servicing and turning as necessary. The Station Pilot takes the coaches to Carriage Sidings 1 or 2 releasing the platform. The Station Pilot assembles Up Trains from carriages in the sidings. The train locomotive then replaces the Station Pilot having been prepared at the engine shed area.Up passenger trains can be routed to either the main line or the branch line. Branch passenger trains are ...

Whatever the truth in that, my feeling is that Templot now runs more slowly than it did before, at least on my system. I may be imagining it of course, but I felt that it was quite noticeable when looking at the Evercreech Jct file which John Palmer posted recently: topic 3205 which contains 117 templates, some of them quite long. So I have been looking at some of the original code for the screen drawing, which has been unchanged for many years. I have made some changes to speed up screen re-draws when zooming and panning, with much better results than I expected for large track plans. This change ...

... topic: 3014 Exactoscale P4 Company turnout bases posted: 17 Apr 2017 11:00 from: Hayfield I have a question about the Exactoscale P4 Company pre-formed turnout bases, I understand that when designing these bases they are for P4 turnouts but I am thinking of using them for EM gauge, I have printed off a standard turnout template from Templot and have found there are a couple of subtle differences. One which is easy to overcome on an A5 turnout, is that at the heal end it is a Timber short. Another is that as the base has the same number of sleepers but as you would expect the length is 5 mm longer, which I believe is easy to overcome. One issue which may not be as easy to overcome is the length of some timbers, from the toe end Plan Base 4 6 Goes into the next timber length by 2 timbers 4 4 Problem continues as above 4 3 Only one timber out of register 2 1 Problem solved There are 5 timbers potentially too short, I could remove 2 timbers and ...

... topic: 1311 Templot GUI Control posted: 17 Dec 2010 17:55 from: John Clutterbuck Posted updated for version 0.16 Having had my cover blown on another forum, I've decided to go public with this now. First some background. My problem is I am running Templot on a Mac with Win XP installed on Parallels and I have an Apple keyboard. Even if I could remember the keyboard shortcuts, many of them simply don't work on Mac/Parallels. This also means most of the crib sheets are of no use. The only recourse is to just use menu commands and I found this so frustrating I had largely given up on Templot. In recent weeks I came across a little programme called AutoHotKey which I used to develop a script to fix key transposition on my Apple keyboard. One thing led to another and I ended up with a script that provides a GUI control panel for common Templot commands. This is the result. It makes no changes whatsoever to the Templot software. All it does is allow common functions to be invoked ...

This is to give me time to think about this dilemma: Is it better to allow users to post a rash of "beginners tutorials", which while done with the best of intent do not properly cover the features of Templot2 or even 091c, and do not match each other? Leading to a mish-mash of help for new users of TDV and Templot2 which must surely cause more confusion than it cures? Or should I simply close the whole of Templot down until I have got Templot2 released AND written a completely new beginners guide which properly covers all the changes in the 12 years since 074b? Heaven only knows how long that will take -- I can barely spend any time on Templot at present. In the 'in progress' plan I have two versions of the station throat. One version contains a curved formation of scissors cross over with a double slip on one leg. The second version (just below the first in green) has a straight formation of scissors cross over with double slip. So which to choose? The straight formation will be easier to build. But the double slip has ended up with a 1:6 slip road on one side to avoid the diamond crossing V. And I'm not sure about the 1:8 slip road on the other side passing under the check rail. Also I much prefer the look of the curved formation, it makes better use of the space too. But the double slip has ended up as an irregular diamond (V10, K8, K8.02 ...

I've not got a lot of experience with using the Templot downloaded onto my pc, and haven't looked a lot at this Forum, so apologies if I'm asking very basic questions that may have been covered plenty already. I've managed to get a map of the 1967 closed terminus at St Enoch Glasgow onto my Templot screen, but can't see what I should do next. What I am wanting to do first is see how much room it takes in P4 gauge, and from that decide which parts I might find practical to model- at least space wise. After that I'll want to get the actual turnouts to start making them if I can think of any practical way of going ahead. The attraction of the location is that it is in a quite confined area that in total might not take an impractical amount of space for a group of determined modellers. I could ...

... topic: 3563 coding clips- December 2019 posted: 2 Dec 2019 14:59 from: Martin Wynne Hi Graeme, Bingo! Or at least half a bingo. When I found that Lazarus wouldn't accept Parent:=pad_form; in the OnCreate event of a child form, I changed it to Windows.SetParent(Handle,pad_form.Handle); Bad move. That's why it is grabbing the focus. After a bit of delving in Delphi I have discovered that Parent:= doesn't do that, it calls the InsertControl method on the parent. So what we need instead of SetParent is pad_form.InsertControl(the_child_form); The end result is that no clicking or dragging on the child takes focus away from the parent, and all parent keyboard shortcuts work fine. I said half a bingo, because it doesn't integrate the keyboard accelerator keys. To some extent that may be a good thing, in that we can have multiple child forms showing and not worry about accelerator conflicts. The actual functionality can be achieved by capturing keypresses on the parent, with a lot ...

At the "dead end" of the station area I currently have a very short 1:4 point to maximise the length of loco that can clear the switch blades and run round the train. This has resulted in an ugly curved section with a pretty tight radius between the point and the double slip as the slip is based on 1:6 diamonds. If I replace the 1:4 with a 1:6 and make the section between the point and slip straight it looks much better, but I'll only ever be able to fit an 0-4 -0 or maybe just an 0-6 -0 tank into the "headshunt".
