The attached plan is the latest version of my proposed exhibition layout. It would be best to view it with centre lines disabled as I have used single rails to mark out limits and buildings. The arc cut outs are for the operators to reduce stretching when using 3 links. Most of the back scene would be tall 'dark satanic mills'. Allowance has been made for a 28xx to be able to bring in a train but not to shunt it. Where there are no timbers, the intention is for cobbles. There is level crossing near the exit from the fiddle yard to protect the mainline from the road access that will enter the yard through a large, gated, brick arch. The firework factory idea has been abandoned since even in 1900 it seems, such a factory in a built up area is unlikely to have been sanctioned. One idea is to have small traversers in the factories so that handling of stock is kept to a minimum but this is still being considered for practicality. I have tried to keep the turnouts as shallow as possible except for the factory spurs and maintain as a spacious and flowing line as I can in the space available, my loft when not being exhibited. Any comments from those more experienced than I on the practicability of this would be much appreciated. Regards Raymond |

Raymond Just out of interest. Do you need two headshunts? What's going in the area to the front and right of the operator? cheers Nigel |

What size of baseboards are you planning to use ? I presume that getting in and out of the loft to take to exhibitions means they will need to be fairly small. I believe you were looking at using foam board to keep the weight down, is that still the plan ? Mike Johnson |

Board sizes, none of which will be wider than 3'6", currently look like being: F/yard, two boards of 5' and 4'6" plus the traverser at 7'9"x2' Remaining four boards at 5', 4'6", 5'6" and 5'6". I intend to use Gordan Gravett's ideas as expounded some time in MRJ with permanent support fitted in the loft and trestles for exhibitions but, I have not yet done the work to prove that the boards will go through the loft entrance.
