HI Martin

I find that when I delete or omit a check rail on a diamond it deletes both the 'V' check and the obtuse check as well. Would it be possible to delete one or the other and not both as when doing scissors crossovers it is some times necessary to omit only the 'V' check and leave the obtuse check or is it necessary to use two partial templates to achieve this.

Also when removing the flares I lose all the flares including those on the 'V' but the diagram in David Smiths GWR switch and crossing practice book, blocked crossing work on page 91 shows at 1. the diamond 'V' check in the centre of the turnout 'V' approaches only flared at one end and the other end machined to a blunt nose.

Sorry to be a pain.

Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,

Yes, that's not very logical is it? I will change it. Thanks for drawing it to my attention -- that's exactly what this "I wish" forum is for. I can look here first when working on the code. In the meantime please use partial templates for this.

That check rail end is such a special with a very short machined flare on both sides that it would be difficult to cover it in Templot, you would have an intimidating screen full of tickbox options. I think this is a case where you either pencil it in on the printed template, or go in for some intricate partial templates. At present you can set only a single flare length for all the V-crossing check rail ends, and machined/bent option for the whole template.

However, waiting in the wings is the option to adjust all check rail ends independently by mouse action. Here is a sneak look at the dialog -- but please note this is NYA (not yet available) and it may not be for some time, or look like this when it is:

No pain. That's what these forums are here for. :)

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin

"That check rail end is such a special with a very short machined flare on both sides that it would be difficult to cover it in Templot."

I was only hoping for a flare one end of the check and a plain end the other anything else I would consider to be a Rolls Royce job.

"However, waiting in the wings is the option to adjust all check rail ends independently by mouse action. Here is a sneak look at the dialog -- but please note this is NYA (not yet available) and it may not be for some time. "

This looks very promising and will be well worth waiting for.

Thanks for all your patience and help please keep up the good work.

Cheers Phil

PS I appear not to have mastered the quotes

On the subject of check rails, it would be useful to be able to extend a check rail length manually so that , say, two very close together could be merged into one or extended to create a continuous check rail for a sharp curve at the exit of a turnout.

You can do that already.  I don't have Templot in front of me, but from dodgy memory there's a "Wing and check rails" option in one of the menus.  In there you can make check rails as long as you like, so you can indeed have continuous check rails on turnout exits, or even plain track with a bit of jiggery-pokery.

Hi Paul

Thanks for that. I found the menu and have played around with it. It's just what I wanted to do but being fairly new to Templot couldn't see how I could do it. Thanks:)
