Hi all,

I'm currently using Templot to design a P4 version of Edinburgh Waverley station purely for the enjoyment part and curiosity of seeing it printed out. I know for the station alone it scales out at around 38ft long by 6ft wide.

Anyway, under the canopy there are two bits of pointwork which I think are called scissor crossing's. I'm unsure if it's possible to draw these in Templot or if I should just draw them as four separate points overlapping each other.

I have attached a pic of what I mean.

Cheers

Martin

Hi Martin

You can do this in Templot, and the level of detail is up to you.  I've attached a zip file:-

scissors1.box is four overlapped turnouts.  This was done by creating a B8 (bottom left) and turning this into a 'simple crossover'.  The resulting control template was copied to background, then used to 'make double track TS'.  This plonks a bit of plain track at the bottom right turnout position.  'Convert plain track to turnout' then 'make simple crossover' produces the result shown.

scissors2.box starts to add in the K-crossing (in marker colours).  One thing to note - the B8 turnouts are obviously 1:8, but that is the RAM angle.  To create the diamond, you need a 1:4 diamond, but that needs to be CLM.  You can then fiddle about forever with partial templates to get all the rails and gaps in the correct place!

Not sure if you're doing this purely for curiosity or whether it might get built, but if you need more help then ask!

Cheers

Hi Martin,

There is a .pdf tutorial at topic 872 for a curved scissors.  It works for straight scissors too.  It is found in the second posting.

Hope this helps.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for that. It looks brilliant. That must have taken a while to produce.

I have no current plans to build this as a layout yet but it could be a possible long term project starting within the next ten years.

What I've learned from other layouts is that you can never plan enough.

Cheers for the help

Martin

Hi John,

Thanks for the link. I never noticed that. I'll have a go soon as it would be something nice to learn in Templot.

Cheers

Martin
