Hello all,

I have been using Templot for a few months now and find it an excellent CAD tool, (once you master the menus and commands and its filing system), anyway I have attempted to model the Leicester Belgrave GNR spur terminus station and have used a scanned 1:500 image from my local records office as an overlay, one question I have is that I modelled it all in P4 , but after attending the EM show in Bracknell and after many discussions on the pros and cons decided to change to EM , Is there an easy way to change the scale in Templot  so i dont have redo it all , i.e does changing the scale in the menu
  • Template
    • Gauge and Scale
      • change to EM
reposition every accurately without having to the re-align the templates.

I have attached the Box file, I haven't attached the BGS file and .BMP as I wasn't sure this was acceptable to the group, (copyright and all that)

I forgot to say that I have modelled this up to what was known as the Catherine Street Viaduct, hence it stops abruptly on the right hand side

Thanks and look forward to your comments

Nick

Hi Nick,

Welcome to Templot Club. That's an impressive plan. :)

To change a track plan to a different gauge or scale:

First select all the templates as a group (CTRL+A). Then go to the full gauges list (template > gauge and scale > other gauges... menu item). Select the new gauge/scale standard you want on the list. Then click the convert group button at the top of the dialog.

If you are converting between the exact gauges, e.g. from P4 to S7, the conversion should be fine. :)

For other conversions there's a bit of a snag. :( If you change the gauge:scale ratio, for example going from P4 to EM, it is mathematically impossible to make a perfect conversion. The lead lengths of turnouts and diamonds will change, and as a result you may find some slight gaps or overlaps between the pointwork templates which will need tidying up after doing the conversion.

But mostly it should be ok and a lot less work than starting again. The problem is worst for conversions to/from 00 gauge, where the gauge:scale ratio differs significantly from other gauges (except TT-3).

Plain track templates should always convert without error.

regards,

Martin.
