I have downloaded .91c seemingly successfully, and set it in run operation. It hasn't be applied to .74b, which remains the same. It seemingly runs through all the various questions and folder applications, but will not actually upgrade the existing programme. Any ideas would be welcome. Railwaynut02 |

The screen will temporarily go blue all over with a dialog box in the centre on which you must click OK a few times. Did you see that? Also you will probably see some confirmation security messages from Windows asking you if you are sure you want to run it. Did you see those? If when you originally installed Templot you changed to a different installation location, you should make the same change when installing 091c. You can install it to a different location if you wish, but in that case you would need to create a new shortcut to launch it. But note that you MUST NOT change to the Windows "Program Files" folder or any sub-folder of it. regards, Martin. |

Thanks Martin for your reply. I think I should say that I am operating Templot through Parallels 5 into Windows. Everything else works OK. Templot -74 works OK. After downloading I come to the run request, clicking this actions it into the next drop down. On clicking next here, it nows comes up with an unidentified error and would I contact the software supplier. Templot .74 still works OK. I have now deleted the downloads to allow a fresh start. railwaynut02 |

I'm sure there are other Mac users on here who can solve your problem. Have you installed a printer on Windows? Just a reminder that Templot needs a default local printer driver -- not a network printer -- to be able to run. The actual physical printer is not necessary, only the Windows printer driver is needed. If you go to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > Add a Printer, Windows will probably offer you a selection of printer drivers, but I've no idea how this works on a Mac. Alternatively a virtual printer such as a fax driver or PDF generator will do fine. A free PDF printer driver can be downloaded from: http://www.software995.net/bin/pdf995s.exe regards, Martin. |

It is news to the several layouts I've designed, one of them fairly complex and well into the construction phase, and all using C:\Program Files\Templot91. I like a tidy hard drive, so as Templot is a program it goes into Program Files and all the BOXs, BGSs and PDFs it produces go in D:\My Documents\Models\LayoutPlans (OK, I know they're not really documents but you get my gist). So far it's never missed a beat, which is more than can be said for some of Redmond's products. Regards Chris |

But it won't work reliably in Windows Vista or Windows 7 unless you run Templot in XP compatibility mode. The "Program Files" folder belongs to Windows, and any program running from it is now expected to conform fully to the Windows guidelines. This is the main reason many programs had to produce new Vista-compatible versions when Vista was released. But Templot sailed through all those changes unscathed because it has always done its own thing in its own folder (or one created by you). But you defeat that advantage if you then go and install it in the Program Files folder. Definitely not recommended, and a recipe for mysterious error messages and missing files. all the BOXs, BGSs and PDFs it produces go in D:/My Documents/Models/Layout/Plans/Much the best solution is to keep the Templot program and its files together. Just as you keep the cookery books in the kitchen. Templot files are meaningless to other programs so there is no reason to put them anywhere else. The program file is significantly smaller than the accumulated data files, so there is no great harm in including the entire Templot folder in your backup set. For best results install the Templot program in the same folder where you want to keep your data files. But not if the path to that folder includes a folder owned by Windows. The ideal location looks something like E:/RAILWAY_STUFF/MODELS/TEMPLOT/ , with not a Windows folder in sight. The less you do things the Windows way the more reliable Templot will be.  regards, Martin. |

Dear Members. Further to the above, I have now managed to download the Pug .91 into The Templot folder in the windows section, but it remains as a set up file. Running it does not upgrade .74 to .91 Advice please. Further to the comments about printers. You seem to be right about having a non-network printer; Templot does not print whereas everything else in windows prints, but how do I do it. My printer has been attached to the network ( via cable) from the computer through the modem to the printer. Do I have to also fit a USB cable direct to the printer to make it a local printer as well??? |
