Hello,
I'm obviously missing something with background shapes. Several times I've added some but when I restart Templot with the previous work, they have all disappeared both from the pad and from the list of shapes. Is there a way to retain them in the work file, please?

Des

You need to explicitly reload them. Select background shapes in the main menu and when the background shapes window appears click on reload

Cheers

Hi Des,

The background shapes are not included in template data files when templates are saved in a .box file, and they are not part of the restore functions for template data.

Instead, the current collection of background shapes can be saved to a separate .bgs file by clicking the save all as... button in the top row on the background shapes dialog, and a previously saved collection of shapes can be reloaded by clicking the reload... button:

bgshapes.gifbgshapes.gif

In this way a saved baseboard design or scanned images can be used as the basis for several different track plan designs.

You can build up a collection of shapes from more than one file by clicking the add file... button.

If you have some unsaved background shapes, Templot will ask you if you want to save them when you quit a Templot session.

red_pointer.gifred_pointer.gif Background shapes are not included in Templot's automatic restore feature after a system malfunction. If you have done a lot of work with background shapes it is worth saving a .bgs file immediately, rather than waiting until the end of the Templot session.

It's not helpful to think in terms of a single work file when using Templot. The current contents of the workpad can have come from several different files -- several .box files, several .bgs files, .bmp image files, .dxf file imports, etc.

The idea is that you load only as much of your project as you need for whatever you are working on. This keeps the screen less cluttered, and your computer can respond faster when you zoom, pan, etc.

regards,

Martin.
