When fiddling about with Partial Templates etc, it becomes very difficult to select Templates just by clicking on them since they overlap each other: thus it is necessary to keep opening the box and working through the list in order to select the required Template.

Templot already includes the feature by which the Template Names can be automatically listed in a row or column. It would be wonderful if the templates could be selected by simply clicking on the name within the list.

Best Regards,

Howard.

Hi Howard,

Hold down the SHIFT key or put the CAPS LOCK on.

The labels will then highlight for clicking when the mouse pointer passes over them. Clicking the label highlights the partial template and displays its menu on the left. This works even if the labels have been turned off using the END key -- assuming you can remember where they are to pass the mouse over. :)

To move them quickly, click bat name label on the template's menu, which jumps them sideways by a fixed amount.

If two labels are exactly superimposed, moving the first one in this way allows you to get at the one below.

regards,

Martin.

Hmm, works brilliantly (of course) but why did I not know that?

Many thanks Martin!

Hi Martin,

I seem to have got myself into a bit of a mess with my name lables. If I select a group, then list the names in, say, a column, it seems that Templot starts the list at the position where the previous list ended. Thus, doing this a couple of time, leaves the list a few scale miles away from the track! But I can't find how to "unlist" a group, nor how to resposition a list of names for one group independently of other name lables / group lists. It would seem to be a useful feature if you could select a group of templates, list the name lables and then to position that list in some way.

Best Regards,

Howard

Hello

Have you tried Group -> mouse action: Move labels. I guess if you've really got yourself in a pickle, then there's Group -> restore group name labels as well.

Hope it helps

Richard.

Hello Richard,

Many thanks for this - the group-> restore name lables did the trick! Even after two years I still have major problems remembering where all these menu items are to be found. I also think I need to practice using the group feature a bit - this layout is only small but has a lot of partial templates so there are 97 templates in the list and I need to get better at manupulating them!

Many thanks,

Howard.

Hi Howard,

Richard has provided the answer to your question.

For a full explanation, please see the Pug Info pages at:

 http://www.templot.com/martweb/pug_info_2.htm

Scroll down to background template name labels and click the info icon.

When you click arrange name labels, the dialog which appears has a more information bar, from which here are the notes below. I have coloured red and underlined the relevant bits which answer your questions:

                Arrange  Name  Labels
This function will neatly arrange the background template name labels into a row or a column.

The name labels of the currently selected group of background templates will be arranged in a column below, or a row alongside, the current position of the label for this selected template.

Before using this function zoom out to an appropriate size and make sure that the name label for this template is in an appropriate starting position. To move it, cancel this and select MOVE NAME LABEL on its menu.

To arrange ALL the name labels, first click the GROUP > GROUP SELECT ALL TEMPLATES menu item to select all the background templates as a group.

HANDY HINTS:

By selecting different groups of background templates you can arrange the name labels in multiple columns or rows.

If this selected template is itself a member of the group, its name label will be moved down or along into numerical order within the other name labels.

While moving a name label, you can get the menu again by right-clicking on the label.

If you use this function while zoomed too far in, the name labels are likely to overlap as you zoom out. Zoom out first.

After arranging the group name labels, you can move them all in one go to a new position using the ACTION > MOUSE ACTIONS: GROUP > MOVE TEMPLATE NAME LABELS mouse action.

See also the different styles of label available on the PAD > PAD BACKGROUND OPTIONS > BACKGROUND NAME LABELS > menu options. If the BOXED OVER style is wanted, select this first before arranging the name labels.
regards,

Martin.

Hi Howard,

There are several ways to create a group of templates, but on a complex plan a quick way to create a group is to click the group > group select > click templates to group menu item.

You can then add templates to the group, or remove them from it, by clicking the name labels, which highlight in green to show this function is active.

When you have finished selecting or deselecting templates, cancel this function by pressing the ESC key, or the F12 key, or select any other menu item.

regards,

Martin.
