Hi,

I just registered in the forums as olstykke. I just am getting back into the hobby and I am an O gauge person. I do have other scales in my collection but I am leaning towards the scale O. That being said, it has been hard finding 2 rail locos in that gauge and consequently all of my O locos use 3 rail track. I searched the Templot forums for three rail track and 3 rail track, but didn't receive any hits. Does Templot do 3 rail?

Is there a step process for how people then build the track? I have been looking at the jigs at handlaidtrack.com. They are costly and as you point out limit the possibilities you have. Plus I can see I might work in HO, N, and possible G if I get a house with a large enough yard for a garden railway.

I realize people probably ask you how to build the track, so that information may be in the forums (could you point me in the direction). But the 3 rail I do not know about.

Again, thank you.

Hi Thor

Welcome to the forum.

Have a look at this topic on RMweb:

This gives a good overview of constructing a turnout from components.

For your third rail I would suggest using bridge chairs, with some packing to increase the height, to support the centre rail.  You may wish to make a gauge to ensure consistent positioning of the third rail.

Thank you. I stumbled on the roller gauges some months ago and i have lost the link. Still I'd like to know where to get some of the turn out curve rulers.

Hi Thor,

Welcome to Templot Club. :)

I don't know of anyone hand building 3-rail track in 0 gauge, although a few are still using stud-contact. For coarse-scale 0 gauge you may find some of the Gauge 1 track parts from Tenmille Products useful:

 http://www.tenmille.com

You would find it helpful to join the Gauge 0 Guild and ask about 3-rail on their forum:

 http://www.gauge0guild.com

Sorry, there is no direct support for 3-rail in Templot. However, you can represent 3-rail by printing the track centre-line at the same width as the rails (1.6mm for 0 gauge) like this:

Martin.

Hi.

In fact C+L Finescale have plans to produce these. So far I have created a set of 32mm F7 curves, five feet - eight feet centre line radius, in six inch increments, plus two straights. Also a set designed for OO/On30 - six inches to 48 inches, again in six inch increments and with a straight.

These are not yet on the web site as I have not created a stock so far - remember our aim, '100% availability, same day despatch'. Sadly I have had two operations in the last nine weeks, with a third yet to come and you will understand that stays in hospital and the consequent recouperations involved are playing havoc with our production schedules. (In an attempt to cope with the increasing demand for our products, Heidi Shorney starts full time next Monday and Jenny Hart will be working mornings only. Don't forget to say 'hello' when you 'phone).

Other scale/gauges will be available asap.

Regards

Brian Lewis
