Hello all,

After a slow start with Templot things are starting to make sense. Makes you realise how useful the program is to us comitted layout designers.

I need to make a quick track plan but as yet haven't figured out how to make a run round loop such as used at a terminus station. I can get all the other bits in to the track plan but don't know how to put the peice in that completes the run round. This is, I pressume, the same situation as making a piece of track to join any two turnouts on a track plan.

Anybody give me a quick answer ?

Regards
Rob

Hi Rob

I normally use TOOLS, MAKE DOUBLE TRACK and the insert the turnouts using TEMPLATE, INSERT TURNOUT IN PLAIN TRACK. USE control F9 to move the template to where it's required. It may be necessary to use TOOLS. MAKE SPLIT to add further turnouts. If your track centres are fairly wide apart you may also need to use TOOLS, MAKE BRANCH TRACK to make up the distance between cross over turnouts.

Rob,

One way of doing something like that is to use a transition curve to connect the tracks extending from the turnouts at each end of your loop.   You might have to gen up on transition curves first. :D

Another way,  if your platform road is straight,  or even if it is curved,  is to set the distance between the platform road and the loop line in the Tools menu,  then get each turnout into control and "make a return curve" (Tools menu).  For the loop track between the return curves,  use "Make double track" in the Tools menu,  then use F4 to adjust this bit of track to fit between the two return curves.  If you want sidings off the loop parallel to the platform road,  then use "Make crossover" in the Tools menu instead of "Make return curve"

Those above for a start. :D

Hi,

Thanks to Jim and Phil for the replies. Just worked through some of the methods suggested and I can see how they can be made to work.

In a rather stupid way I was expecting Templot to have a menu option for 'TOOLS>JOIN THE PEGS ON THE TWO TURNOUTS>SMOOTH BIT OF TRACK>SLEEPERS NICELY SPACED' but maybe Martin is too busy with the new PUG to code that bit just now....

Thanks again. Back to the soldering iron and the copperclad....oops now they all know I am not making proper track with chairs.
