Hello, I have been looking around for some compensation units to put under kit built 7mm scale wagons, mainly Slaters ones that don't have the already compensated chassis. I got some from a small company at the Kettering Spring O gauge show but they place the wheels too far from the wagon floor. Anybody got any views on this ? Ideally I would prefer each wagon to have both axles included so that the wheels can be added later after painting is done. Regards Rob |

I've used the one from WEP models which seemed the right size, my price list is 3 years old but it indicates there are ones for different size wheels. I noticed the other day that Meteor Models also has one on its web site, but I've never used it (seems expensive and only one size ?). Lately I've just been using an L shaped piece of brass strip under the middle of the axle on Parkside kits so I have not had to buy anything. Mike Johnson |

Have a look at the Bill Bedford spring units as sold by Eileens Emporium: <http://www.eileensemporium.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=289&Itemid=9> |

Thanks Mike and John for the suggestions. I have used Bill Bedford springing units in 4mm and thought the brass was very thin and flimsy. I haven't handled any of his 7mm items. Like many of us cost is an issue with the items and adding £7 to the cost of each wagon ( plus maybe springs/axleboxes if the originals aren't used ) is a lot when I maybe doing quite a few. I have talked with Bill at WEP models today and he sent me dimensional info on the ones he does. the size seem to match exactly with Slaters wagon kits and are also fine for Parkside with a little packing. They are inside bearing types which means the w-irons/springs/etc are built up as normal. It also means painting can be carried out before the wheels are fitted. They are £3 per wagon plus postage which is better for me. Thanks again. Rob |

I have used Ambis Engineering sprung W irons in the past in 4mm, and they are an excellent product. Not sure how much they produce in 7mm, though if I remember correctly, they do some LYR W irons. | ||

There is a good range of 7mm wagon suspension units to be found in the Exactoscale range, supplied in N/S and with PB bearings. The Exactoscale web site has a section for download of instructions on assembly of the wagon suspension units and of the different forms of brake gear (which are bought separately). I like these products and recommend them - to date the only Slater's kit which cannot be fitted with an Exactocale product straight from the packet is the rectangular tar tank where the diagonal and long middles are moulded as part of the tank floor. regards, Graham |
