It is my experience that both "0 Scale" and "0 Gauge" are used in the United States with very different meanings. Both refer to a scale of 1/4" = 1 ft. (1:48) running on a track gauge of 1.25". However there the similarity ends. "0 Scale" is generally taken to mean NMRA two rail fine scale (the American equivalent of GOG-FS) whereas "0 Gauge" refers to three rail coarse scale (aka Hi-Rail). Three rail track is much more common here than in the UK and many of the three rail layouts rival the fine scale models if you ignore the the track and wheel standards. Since I model two rail 0 Scale and my knowledge of the three rail world is somewhat sketchy perhaps somebody else on this side of the atlantic would care to weigh in with some further clarification?
