Hi Folks I recently bought a relief(wood carved picture) from a charity shop. Rather pleased with it but attempts to discover any information on the web or for similar memorabilia has returned a complete blank. A colleague said he thought he saw a similar one some years ago at the York Railway museum. It may not be an original railway item, could be a picture from a pub? It is about 3ft (1m) wide and all made of hand painted then varnished wood. The brown painted surround frame looks as if it may have originally been light blue or this may have been the undercoat. The backing is ply which has started to laminate with age. It is obviously fairly old but difficult to say how old. Any information, ideas or suggestions on its origin would be much appreciated. Many thanks Derek |
