I think I'm reaching the point where track can be laid on my baseboards. I have some baseboards and a printout of the track.

My initial thoughts are that I would seal the baseboards with varnish or paint, then glue down closed cell foam with PVA, and glue the template on top of this. Once that is done, glue copperclad on the template for sleepers and start ballasting. Then start soldering rail to the copper clad.

But I have concerns about this. My templates are printed on an inkjet printer. Does the PVA distort the template.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Nick

I appear to have written four times on this subject over the years:

Assuming they are all different -- take your pick! :)

Hi Nick,

I answered a similar question on the US handlaidtrack group yesterday, although it seems not to have appeared there yet. Here it is again:

In the UK Copydex latex adhesive has been around for at least 50 years. It can be diluted with water and dries to a soft rubbery film.

We use it to seal cork roadbed and for ballasting.

You must have something similar but I've no idea what it's called. Copydex is mainly advertised as an adhesive for fabrics -- carpets, canvas, leather, and the like. For which being flexible is essential. Also sold as a safe adhesive for young children to cut and paste. See:

Copydex info. (Also available in larger sizes, but it's expensive.)

I suggest you try your local carpet fitters. Unbranded latex adhesive may be a lot less expensive.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Nick,

Here's the technical data for Copydex, which may help you find an equivalent:

Strange that it says "keep away from children and animals" -- this adhesive is used in schools because it is water-based and considered safe.

Martin.

Thanks for the leads Martin!

It's been an experience: this moving the the US thing has been interesting.

Metals is in interesting one. Silver Steel. No. Tool Steel or Drill Rod. Yes. Half the problem, most of the time, is figuring out what stuff is really called.
