Hi Martin,

I thought the gremlins had struck again, as I seemed to have lost the Vee wing rail joints on a template which, caused me a little confusion at the time.

On investigation, it appears that if you have no timbers on the template, all the rail joint marks are there except for the Vee wing rail joints, these joint marks only return when you restore the timbers.

Not really a big deal, but does make it more difficult when you want to adjust the wing rail joints when you have no timbers on the template.

All the best,

Brian Nicholls.

Hi Brian,

The position of the wing rail joints is determined by the timber spacing -- real > V-crossing options > customize V-crossing > wing rail front... menu item.

This is necessary so that the joints are marked central between the timbers. Admittedly this is rather a back-to-front way of working, normally the timbers are laid out to suit the rail lengths. :)

I will see if the joints can be drawn when no timbers are present.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Many thanks for the very prompt response. :thumb:

As I said in my previous, it’s no big deal once you are aware. :)

Would be nice if you can draw the joints when no timbers are present, it makes it much easier to measure with the ruler with timbers out of the way.

Which brings me to another small point while I’m on the subject, when the template is in the control and timbers are present the ruler disappears behind the timbers and you cannot read the ruler if the measuring point happens to be situated under or close to a timber.
An example being, if you want to measure the actual distance between timber centres, for rail fixing chairs, when the timber is twisted.

You can however read the ruler when the template is on the background, the ruler then rides over the top of the timbers.

Again not a big deal, just a minor inconvenience at times. :)

All the best,

Brian Nicholls.

Hi Brian,

Try workpad > pad options for the control template > timber infill > none menu option.

Or hatched, if you want to use the shove timbers functions.

Or you can untick generator > generator settings > timber infill menu item, but this will also affect newly-stored background templates, and will be cancelled when shoving timbers (main > enable generator menu).

regards,

Martin.

p.s. don't forget that you can make measurements via the read-outs on the jotter. See the help notes for the jotter -- tools > jotter • X-Y read-outs menu item.

Hi Martin,

Grateful thanks for the two messages, and in particular, the hints on making the timbers transparent. :thumb:

BTW, you asked us to let you know if the internet for the Templot club is slow. :(

I went to read your last two messages, and found I kept getting the message:

Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to 85a.co.uk

This was from 17:42 until I have just read your messages at 19:02.

Now I tried many times to communicate during this period, however, it could have come back on-line a few minutes earlier than 19:02, as was busy doing some transition curves over the later few minutes.

It does appear to be back to normal now. :)

Many thanks again for the help and tips. :thumb:

All the best,

Brian Nicholls.

Hi Brian,

Sorry about the downtime. All Data 1 Systems sites were down including RMweb.

A message from Jim (our hosting provider):
There was a network outage today that affected all clients from 17:20 to about 18:45 GMT.

We are working on a way to implement a backup network as a failsafe.

We apologize for the downtime, our recent growth has brought to light a lot of things we need to move forward. I want to thank all the clients that have stuck with us during our "growing pains".

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the information about the internet, not really a problem for me, just a minor hick-up at the time, much too busy Templotting my layout. :D

All the best,

Brian Nicholls.
