Hi Martin,

Have you thought of incorporating a feature to produce a "schedule of items" for the TEMPLOT plan being worked on - ie number of sleepers, length rail, etc to help with buying enough, or at least forewarning one of the cost(!), of the proposed layout?

just a thought....

best wishes

Richard

Hi Richard,

The next TDV update will show the total length of all timbering. This was requested by Ian recently.

TDV can already show the total length of all templates, and multiplying by 2 gives you a starting point for the rail needed. Add say another scale 150ft or so of rail for each turnout. On the storage box (TDV) -- box > box info menu item.

I could add counts for the number of turnouts and half-diamonds, but the numbers won't mean much if you have some slips and tandems, or complex formations using multiple partial templates.

It's all a bit approximate. I think most practical modellers just buy in a stock of materials -- rail, ballast, plastic, glue, wire, solder, paint, or whatever it is, and order some more when they run out. :)

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for that - it was mainly getting a "feel" for the total length of rail that sparked the idea.

best wishes

Richard

Thing is Martin, when even for me it's an hour round trip to Marcway for materials you don't want to have to go back in a hurry :)

Hi Ian,

Just buy double the number you first thought of. :)

Martin.

of course when you are telling "Santa" how much money he needs to leave behind the counter then it becomes even more important to get the guesstimate right .....

Thats easy, just follow H M Goverments procurement rules; add 50% then double the ensuing total!
