Good Evening Martin and All,

My apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum, but it is the first time for some while that I have posted a comment.

I run Templot on Linux Ubuntu 10.04 using Wine and have found an interesting little phenomenon with the current TDV release.  When I have Templot open and I want to shift the track position on the work pad I have, until now, just hit F7 on the keyboard.  However with the TDV if I do this Templot immediately shuts down and reverts to the desktop.  If I use the F7 tab at the top of the work pad everything functions OK.  I have no problem with this, I just have to remember to use the tab not the keyboard.

I just thought I would mention it as I know Martin wants to hear about any  little niggles that users may have.

Best regards and a Happy New Year to All,

Dick

Hi Dick,

Many thanks for the report.

I think F7 must be a hot-key in Linux or Wine because there is no difference in TDV to explain this. If you are using a laptop, what happens if you hold down or toggle the Fn key?

Anyone else seeing this?

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

Many thanks for your quick response. No, I have only a rather ancient desktop PC.

It's just strange that I have never had this phenomenon using Ubuntu with previous releases. I still have 0.91c on my hard drive and reverted just to check. F7 on the keyboard works fine!

Although I prefer Ubuntu, I can boot to Windows XP and using this the F7 key works with no problem.

I use Templot only occasionally and I am more than happy with the wonderful programme you have developed.

As I said previously, I can easily live with the "glitch" whatever its cause, I just reported it for information.

Regards,
Dick

Hi Martin and Dick,

I run 0.91c under Ubuntu without significant problems... I don't currently need the TDV's facilities, but I downloaded it to see if I could reproduce Dick's problem. F7 works correctly for me, either using the key or selecting the screen button with the mouse.

As far as I can see from a quick play, all the other F key (and shift and control combinations) work as I would expect, with the exception of F10 which brings up the Indicator menus in the Unity Desktop Top Panel (I had to look up the Ubuntu help doc to find this terminology - what I mean is the set of icons at the top right of the Ubuntu desktop). This is the expected behaviour for F10 under Ubuntu, and (as far as I can see from the doc) is the only time an OS shortcut uses an F key... all other shortcuts are with the Meta key or Alt combinations, which Templot avoids.

As a bonus, the problems I previously saw using 0.91c under Ubuntu with respect to lockups when entering data values rapidly, eg for timber shoving, seem absent with TDV build 4703 :-)

(I am using Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot", Wine 1.3.28, on a recent but low-end Sony Vaio laptop; Wine is set to emulate Windows XP rather than any other version)

hope that helps
regards
Graham Roberts

Hi Martin and Graham,

Got it!!! The glitch was a result of how I had set my desktop and nothing to do with Templot. I had forgotten that I use F6 & F7 to switch workspaces in Ubuntu. So when I hit F7 on the keyboard, Templot was not shutting down as I thought but merely moving sideways!! Why it doesn't do it in 0.91c, I don't know, but I am now not bothered. I shall re-allocate my F keys.

Please accept my sincere apologies for bothering you with this.

Regards
Dick (With a very red face and wearing sackcloth and ashes)
