Another beginners problem!
As part of my track plan, i have two parallel tracks on a shallow S-bend. I have created a simple crossing between these two tracks

and now want to convert one of them into a diamond crossing (and eventually a slip).

The problem is if I use 'convert turnout to half diamond'

or 'make diamond crossing' I loose the parallel tracks

Am i asking too much, or, as usual am I missing something?

Ray.

Hi Ray,

You have found a bug in TDV. Thanks for reporting it. :thumb:

Without the bug, you needed to make a ladder crossover instead of a simple crossover. The correct procedure would have been:

1. delete the unwanted lower template

2. delete the upper template back to the control template

3. click the tools > make ladder crossover > make regular ladder menu item, to create the diamond-crossing instead of the turnout.

That works fine in version 091c even if the turnout is in a transition zone, as yours is.

Unfortunately because of a bug it doesn't work in TDV in the case of a transition. I will get it fixed. (The diamond-crossings were completely re-written for TDV to introduce irregular diamonds).

As a workaround in the meantime do this:

1. make a simple crossover again as you did previously.

2. geometry > notch > put notch under peg menu item.

3. template > convert turnout to half-diamond menu item.

4. geometry > peg positions > peg on TXP menu item (CTRL-5).

5. geometry > notch > shift onto notch menu item.

6. tools > make diamond-crossing menu item.

Sorry about that, I will get it fixed for the next TDV update.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin.
Sorry i've found you more work.
The workaround worked a treat so not a problem.

Just need to convert it to a slip - but i'll leave that till after i've finalised the basic plan.

Regards
Ray.

PS. Is there a list of abreviations i.e TXP etc. I haven't a clue what all these mean.

Try templot companion  " Gentle Geometry"  You will find that there is a full description if you scroll through it.

Hi Ray, watching with interest, I am trying to put together a tandem turnout, (I could get shot for this, for want of a simpler term a triple turnout.)

I put this together for my own information , might help.

Cheers Paul.

Hi Les, Paul.
Thanks for the info regarding the abbreviations, what would be more useful to rookies like me would be a diagram, but I guess I'll get by without.

Tandem turnout next on the agenda but busy with work for a day or two so won't get a chance to tackle it until nearer the weekend.

Hi Ray, I'm a rookie like you and know just what you are saying, I've only been going in Templot about a month and again I have made very rough notes on a printed turnout of the different terms which I have found most useful, unfortunately it is a hard (paper) copy and a long way from making it onto a downloadable file, so as a suggestion print a template and make notes as you come across items.

Cheers Paul
