I have been given a box file containing some templates for LNWR switch and crossing work.

I have read through all of the Templot Companion pages and I am still at a loss as to how to make use of the box templates.  For example:- how do I print one template from the box?

Where are beginners meant to start in regard to understanding how to use Templot?

Thank you, Graham

Hi Graham,

Go to : http://templot.com/companion/

Start by clicking on either of the New User guides in the left hand menu.

Hi Graham,

It rather depends on what you want to use Templot for. :)

Some beginners just want to print out some typical templates to practice model track building.

Some beginners want to create a complete track plan of Crewe.

Some beginners want to create a complex formation comprising 3 tandem turnouts, 2 outside slips and a scissors crossover, all laid out on a transition curve in metre gauge.

Some beginners want to create an exact scale drawing of a Great Northern Railway (Ireland) 1:7.5 double slip for 5ft-3in gauge, 1938 pattern.

However, most beginners start by reading through the Templot Companion pages at:

   http://www.templot.com/martweb/templot_gs.htm

and by working through the "Track Plan" tutorial at:

   http://www.templot.com/martweb/tut5a.htm

I'm aware that a lot of the above stuff is now out-of-date for the later versions of Templot, but the basic methods and working remain. It will all be updated for Templot2 eventually. The video examples at:

   http://www.templot.com/martweb/video_list.htm

are a bit more up-to-date.

It rather depends on how the templates have been stored in the file.

However, try this:

1. start Templot without loading any files.

2. click the main > storage box menu item.

3. click the add library... button on the storage box.

4. navigate to your file and load it.

This will load the templates as library templates, even if they weren't stored as such. Library templates show in green on the storage box.

5. select the required template on the storage box.

6. click the green copy to the control template button.

7. back on the workpad,

   a. In version 091c click the print > print the control template menu item.

   b. In TDV click the output > print the control template menu item.

regards,

Martin.
