I have a drawing of a WDLR turnout that shows the curved leg is a constant 30 metre radius from the toe end of the turnout through the crossing and to the diverging leg.

I have been playing around fro a couple of hours now and can not figure out how to make this in Templot.  I can get the curved portion and straight portion laid over each other to it has a general turnout shape but I can not for the life of me figure out how to draw the crossing.

I can whip it up in my cad program in about 5 minutes so it is obvious I am missing something vital in Templot to do the same.

This in in O14 and I have looked at John Clutterbuck's templates as a start figuring that would be a good place to begin but can not figure out how to change it.  I know there has to be an easy way to do it.

Hi Bruce,

Set the V-crossing to curviform pattern.

Adjust the V-crossing angle until the external geometrical radius (substitution radius) matches the required radius.

There is a video showing how to do this at:

http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/subs_rad.exe

If you are using TDV, use F9 rather than F5 to adjust the V-crossing angle.

For narrow-gauge, light railways and industrial you could change to a gaunt turnout and set the gaunt offset to zero. This will cause the switch rails (points) to follow the geometrical radius exactly.

However, a proper design requires a custom switch to create the correct planing and heel dimensions for the switch rails. Do you have some data for the switch (points)?

regards,

Martin.

I have attached my first go at a WDLR 30m turnout.  I will eventually be building these with Railcraft Code 55 rail.  I think I have things correct but not sure so if someone could check my work against the WDLR I uploaded earlier I would appreciate comments/corrections
