Hi Everyone,

Just a quick introduction.

I have been a long time watcher of Templot and over many years watched with amazement the results that Paul Boyd, an old member here and ex-work mate, came up with.

Now that I am now happily settled in my new home with my new wife, my thoughts have gone back to creating something railway related of, I hope, beauty.

For many years I have been scratching my head as to a suitable candidate, I did many years ago want to model Weston super Mare in "N", based around the early 1960's. It soon became clear that this was going to be a massive and expensive undertaking, without giving me the results I wished for.

I now work in a village called Yatton. This is on the main Bristol to Exeter main line and was the western end for the Chedder valley (Strawberry) line. It also served Clevedon. Whilst not massive, it has all the makings of what I want to achieve, main line through trains (with a bit of compromise) and branch line working. I can even have an engine shed and some goods yards!

This project can just fit in my roof space if modelled in EM, and will allow me to have the trackwork finish and locomotive detail that was badly missing in "N".

I have a lot to learn and have given myself 2 years to learn Templot and get an acceptable track plan. I feel sure that with all the experts in this club, whilst the learning curve will be steep, help will be here to resolve my problems!

And lastly Martin, Thank you for making a wonderful bit of software available to the masses; I feel sure that this will pay for itself, I will donate as soon as possible.

A few pictures and maps of Yatton can be found on my personal website: http://www.wslwx.co.uk/railway/

My best wishes to everyone

Jon Fear

Well, hello Mr Fear!  How's things?

Still thinking big, I see :D  I've had a look at the track plan, and that would indeed make a good model.  Two branch lines terminating, no less!  If you have the space, this would be good in 4mm and EM is a good compromise.  There's some very intriguing trackwork there, and Yatton 1960 aerial is a great photo.  The trackwork in Yatton 1960 is crying out to be modelled.  Have you joined EMGS yet?

Two years to learn Templot?  I'm still learning after, I think, 11 years :?   Work through the tutorials (even though they don't quite match the current release) and it will click.  Usual advice - forget anything you know about CAD!

I might even have a go at Templotting this myself - just for fun - I'd never build it!  I'm currently actually building two layouts.  One based on Iain Rice's Shotley South Quay and the other one based on (OK, copied from!) Upbeach St Mary, which in turn is a copy of someones else's but it's supposed to be a quickie.  Photos of the former on my website (scroll down a bit to the "Shotley" album) but no photos of the latter yet until I come up with a name!

Have fun!
