I have been asked about building a couple of turnouts and a catch point in P4 for a loco shed diorma for a single track line based on GWR practice at the end of the 1920's

I have tried the search function on this site and not much came up, B7 size has been requested but I see in the section for switces there are GWR switches of differing lengths.

2 bolt chairs will be used, but how should I set up the template please

One extra point is that it would be nice to use Exactoscale special slide chairs, if I use one of the GWR switches is it possiable to use these as they come in A,B & C types.

Thanks in advance

John

Hi John,

The GWR slide chairs are quite distinctive in having a semicircular end on the inside:

Some of the crossing chairs are similar. But the plain track chairs (2-bolt) have square ends. You can see the difference in the above pic.

Note that for plain track, GWR chairs are through-bolted from below, with the nuts on top. But for pointwork they are screwed down from the top in the usual way, as you can see.

To do justice to GWR track you need David Smith's book on the subject: :)

regards,

Martin.

Unfortunately nobody makes a plastic GWR Slide rail chair in 4mm scale. Etched brass from Masokits?

Thank you  for your swift replies, I see the 2 bolt slide chairs will be a problem.

Thanks for the link to the book, as the project is not mine I will see what I can do.

Any thoughts please to any changes I can make to a standard B7 template in Templot please
