Aft'noon all,

I'm working on the trackplan for the scenic section of Torr Giffard 1959-1971 in 18.83 (P4). The layout is a development of Coleford jnc on the Exeter to Barnstaple route where the Plymouth line diverged. See

2297_200928_040000000.png2297_200928_040000000.png

The up platform will occupy the space between the up main and the goods run round loop/goods line. I'm aware that catch points will need to be added between the double slip and single track Barnstaple line (top left). The curvature throughout on the main lines can be taken as 20 chains. I've checked the track centre dimensions on several close up period pictures of curved sections and the 47.5mm gap which you see between the platforms and through the double junction above appears to be similar. The main lines diverge at the Exeter (right hand) end of the formation to pass through a typical 3 arch stone bridge before entering a twin bore tunnel. Similarly the Plymouth lines diverge to enter a twin bore tunnel at the left hand end.

Can anyone spot any glaring mistakes that I've failed to appreciate please?

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

That's looking good. :)

If you attach your box file here, members will be better able to see the details of your plan and comment.

Also, if you are using Templot2 you can add the platforms: real > platforms... menu item.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

I couldn't see how to attach the box so I've scanned some close ups (the grid scale is 1ft squares)

The catch point will be installed between the double slip and the Barnstaple single line to protect same. The maximum curvature on the passenger lines is 20 chains throughout with a 40mph speed restriction as per the period prototype Plymouth route at Coleford jnc.

The single slip at the entrance to the yard will facilitate a run round manouvre in the platforms.

I've narrowed the track centre gap on the main lines through the station and double junction too as the spacing appeared too generous when printed. The above close up showed the change of direction in the down main to be fairly dramatic so I've now used the 'easement from straight' feature in 'transition curves' to improve matters, see below

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

Which version of Templot are you using? If you download Templot2 it is easy to create diamond-crossings where you have the plain tracks overlapped.

It's difficult to comment on the plan without access to your Templot .box file. It's easy to attach here, just in the same way you attached the screenshots. Simply navigate the file upload dialog to wherever you are saving your .box files, the default locations being C:\TEMPLOT\BOX-FILES\ or C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\BOX-FILES\ for versions 091c and Templot2 respectively.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin,

The design of the TG trackwork to largely conform to a 2ft width baseframe has meant that I've spent considerable time ensuring that the overall track layout will do just that whilst maintaining generous radii curvature esp. on the passenger lines. I'm hoping that the double slips, single slip and diamond crossovers can now be designed to fit into this overall design rather than having created them first. Is this a viable route to a good overall result?

In answer to your 'which Templot' query, I used the version before Templot 2 (the development version I think) for much of the scenic section and then continued with Templot 2.

I'll try again to attach the 'box'.

Regards

Dave

Hi,

I've had a look (good excuse to play with the irregular diamond features, actually). There are a few problems with the plan as it stands, basically stemming from track centres and alignments. I've attached a boxfile - still needs timbers sorting out out and slips finishing off and there are one or two areas that I haven't looked at.

Hello there,

Many thanks for helping with the plan, I'll try and finish it to the same standard.

Regards

Dave
