A member of Templot Club using a Hotmail email address has reported to Hotmail an email from Templot Club as spam.

On the say-so of one user, Hotmail has now blocked all emails from Templot Club to other members also using Hotmail, and not only that blocked all emails from the same shared hosting server. That's several dozen of Jim's other customers who have no connection with Templot Club.

Jim will now have to jump through several hoops to get Hotmail to unblock his server.

I know that no-one in their right mind uses Hotmail, but a few do, and I may have to ban Hotmail addresses from Templot Club. Some other free email providers are equally keen to block servers for the flimsiest reason.

If you think an email from Templot Club is spam, please notify me ( webmaster@templot.com ) and not your provider. Otherwise it can cause untold grief for others.

regards,

Martin.

Martin,

I have to say I am surprised to hear this. I do have a Hotmail account, though I don't use it for anything. But the reason I got my Gmail account was precisely because I found Hotmail was blocking Templot club emails. And that was two or three years ago - so how is that someone else was still receiving them?

Are you sure that a "real" spammer is not spoofing Templot Club?

Also, it is very easy to "accidentally" report something as spam in the belief that it will merely stop them coming to yourself, as there is no warnings that there are bigger consequences for everyone else.

Still, It is a useful tip - I shall report MSN as SPAM and see if the Microsoft server gets blocked.

Best Wishes,

Howard.

Hi Howard,

I don't know anything about previous problems, except that Hotmail is the most notoriously unreliable email service. Jim alerted me this morning that his server had been blocked, and on investigation found that spam had been reported by a member of Templot Club.

His primary business is providing shared hosting for forums such as Templot Club -- many hundreds of them, with hundreds of thousands of members in total. He is finding it a constant battle with Hotmail to keep all his servers unblocked, because it takes only one member to report spam to get the server blocked.

No, I can't be sure about that. Jim asked me to disable sending emails to one specific member, and I have done so.

I shall report MSN as SPAM and see if the Microsoft server gets blocked.
:)

regards,

Martin.
