Please forgive me but I can do simple functions to build turnouts and track plans, but I realy struggle with the more expert functions on Templot I am trying to create a 3 way turnout, I have watched the tutorial several times, but some how I am missing what to do. I am fine overlaying one point on to another and using the shove timbers to rearrange the sleepers. I am now left with some rails too long as they go through the common crossings etc, I see that I can remove the rails via Ctrl + O, but I just want to shorten them. Please can someone tell me what keys need pressing so I can reduce / increase the length of a rail Thanks in advance John |

Hi John, To avoid rails running through overlaid V-crossings, you need to take the rails out into separate partial templates. You can then shorten the rails or create a gap in them as needed. The partial templates are then all superimposed as separate background templates to create the final construction template. There is some Jing video in this topic, showing how to do that: topic 706 - message 3967 The video is a few years old, but shows the basic idea. It is a nice challenge to work out which rails should go in which partial template, ideally to keep the number of partial templates to a minimum.  regards, Martin. |

Martin Thanks you very much, I could not find that video and I think its clearer than the 3 way tutorial. will give it a go later. |

posted by email Hello Martin I had a look at the video but I ran into some problems. - the uncheck of "switch drive mark" is not in the geometry menu - when I have stored the "main-road cross rail" it gets a label "no-name". In the demo the text disappears (What are you do that I can't see??) - after I have done the last "store & background" the rails I have worked on still are blue and the rest black and on top of the blue also I have 3 no-name labels... Martin I have nearly cracked it, some how I managed to follow the video and only made 2 mistakes which I was able to rectify. I am now only short of the wing rails for the first common crossing, going to try and add a pair. Thanks again John |

You may need to hunt around a bit to find what you are looking for. After you stored a copy of it, Templot showed it again ready for you to make the adjustments to it needed for the next template in your track plan. To see the stored background copy, you can hide the control template (press the HOME key), or move it out of the way (F7 mouse action). The control template represents the current output from the generator. You adjust it as required, and then make a copy of it on the background as part of your track plan. It may help to imagine using an adjustable date stamper. Adjusting the control template and then storing a copy of it is the basic working method in Templot. It would be a good idea to become familiar with that before embarking on the more complex functions such as building multiple partial templates. also I have 3 no-name labels...Hold down the SHIFT key and then click on the label. On the menu which appears on the left, click the rename... menu item. regards, Martin. |
