So, in a fit of insomnia, I decided I would have a go at making a tandem turnout for my layout. It all seemed pretty simple, a #8 and a #9 turnout. Working in H0e (9mm gauge, 0.85mm flange way gaps, aka NEM N track on H0 sleeper spacings)
I have managed to get the two turnouts overlaid over each other, but I am now stumped, so much of the video tutorial seems to not match up, and the various other attempts people have made to document how to make a tandem turnout, don't seem to work for me.
I have attached the box file of where I am so far, Can anyone point me at what I am supposed to do next?

Hi Julia.
The problem with your Tandem is that the switch pairs are too close together and the second set of blades cannot be opened. I have altered the geometry to give a more practical solution although the second switch is still very tight. If moved further along then the middle crossing gets too close to the adjacent running rail. I have positioned the peg where the fine point of the third crossing will need to go. This is done by using "Action > mouse actions : control / geometry > Move Peg ctlr + F8" with the "Geometry > peg on line or rail > on turnout-road crossing rail" to find the intersection. I have also altered the timbering to "Real > timbering > square on (to main road)". Hope this helps.
Tony.

Thank you for your help, this has certainly got me a bit further a long the line, I am still struggling to get my head round a lot of the concepts that are built into templot. Am I right in thinking there are now 3 bits of turnout template, that I now need to somehow turn into a single template item? Or am I getting confused somewhere here?
As it stands I have what looks like the right rail layout, if I select no timbering, then It almost looks like what I expected. I can't say I can find anything intuitive as the next step.
Thanks
J

Hi Julia.
You are quite correct that you have 3 templates superimposed on one another (so far). Two full turnouts and a partial template containing just the third crossing. These are quite separate and cannot be combined as one single item, but will print out as if they are one. Where I go from there is to sort out the timbering using the timbering of the third crossing as is and omitting the timbers where they are duplicated on the underlying templates, then lengthen the timbers of the inner switch to match the timber lengths of the other turnout by selecting each turnout in turn and opening the timber shoving window with "Shift F10". To select a timber to alter, put the mouse pointer on the timber number, so it changes colour (Green) and left click it. The timber colour will change to Red to show it has been selected. The remaining timbering will then need to be attended to as only one timber is required for each position. Bear in mind that the timber spacings at the Switches and Crossings should not be altered, only the lengths. It is permissable to adjust the angle of the timber under the crossing, but not advisable under switches. If you are still at a loss, I will update your box file to show you what I mean.
Tony.
