Hi all I have used original Templot to design 3 layouts now and only wheel it out when drawing a track plan and need to construct track. I am launching into a new project to build Hulme End on the Leek and Manifold to scale length in 7mm scale and find that Templot 2 has appeared since I last looked. So, should I continue to use my original version of Templot or should I go for the new free download version? My PC is now 7+ years old and is still on XP. The old version of templot still works and I have a blank page to go at. The layout will be built to 17.5mm gauge (2' 6") and have correct 1 in 8 turnouts. I shall be using the 1:5000 OS map as a base for drawing the track plan as I did with my 014 layout Dinas. I cannot easily find/see the advantages of templot 2 - apart from the fact that Martin is kindly relying on donations rather than a paid for version. Help please!! Paul |

They are two separate programs. If you download and install Templot2 it won't affect your old version -- you will have two Templot icons on the desktop. There is a lot of new stuff in Templot2 and I'm sure you would find some of it useful. For example if you are creating custom narrow-gauge templates, being able to adjust the check rails by mouse action* is a great help. There is a full list of all the new features at: topic 1511 - message 9413 *This and the other new features are not supported in the older versions, so it is inadvisable to create templates in Templot2 and then reload the file in the older versions. They will load, but the results may not be what you expected. Another point to bear in mind is that it is now over 12 months since I stopped supplying the old versions, and all support for them has now ceased. Any replies which I make here or elsewhere and any new docs and tutorials will be for Templot2 only. Unfortunately that's not the unambiguous statement I would like it to be. Much of the existing docs still refer to the older versions, a lot of it all the way back to version 074b. But that situation will gradually change -- he said hopefully. regards, Martin. |

Similarly baffled - I bought an old version which died with an old computer, and so have uploaded the latest version but I am having difficulty in getting the hang of it. Basically I want it to construct points etc in O scale for Swiss Metre Gauge. I know that I need to have a custom Template. Should I start as last time with "S scale" standard gauge, and then tweak timber sizes and spacings. I have lost the old instructions I had. |
