I've been wanting to model Shirebrook for years and have made various attempts at a plan in Templot but recently I've found the following site plan for the depot.
http://shirebrookdieseldepot.co.uk/siteplan.html
I was wondering if anybody could advise on how accurate these plans are. I have noticed a couple of things.
- When creating plans in the past I have used images from the planning portal and the track centres appear to be a standard 11'2" . Shirebrook West junction, just beyond the bridge also has the same centre to centre distance according to http://shirebrookdieseldepot.co.uk/renewals.html If I measure from the plan though it appears to be more like 12'8".
- The curvature along the main up and down is not constant which is not really a surprise but I am struggling to match it in Templot as I cannot see any consistency along the curve, it appears continuously to vary.
How faithfully should I try and copy the plan? Should I try and match the curve or just approximate, maybe even use a constant radius throughout? What track centres should I use?

Any advice much appreciated.

You ask how accurate these plans are?

The scale of the CCE plan you have is 480:1; the Ordnance Survey is 1250:1 in urban areas and 2500:1 elsewhere, so you are in with a probability that the CCE plan is more accurate as it is probably based on the railways own local land surveys.

I have used similar CCE plans and generally found them to be very good although I have to admit that the words stating the design parameters of the track don't always match the drawn geometry of the track.

That said, well done on getting an excellent plan as a starting point for your project.

Many happy hours in Templot to follow....

Thanks Peter,
I just happened to be searching and came across  the web site, I couldn't believe my luck, there's a wealth of information in this plan and other drawings on the site.
Just in case anybody missed it:
