Sorry if this has been asked before I have tried a search (may be using the wrong words) but I am still on V0.91. I want to keep all my saved templates/plans and am at a bit of a loss what to do.

Do I have to save these templates elsewhere whilst up grading to Templot 2 or does the conversion process save them? Where do I find the instructions for conversion please?

Sorry for being such a numpty, but me and computers do not mix very well.

Hi John,

Templot2 is an entirely separate program. Installing Templot2 makes no difference to Templot version 091c, and you can go on using either of them at any time if you wish.

Your files from 091c are in the C:\TEMPLOT\BOX-FILES\ folder.

Templot2 keeps its files in a different folder -- C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\BOX-FILES\ folder.

To load your old 091c files into Templot2, click main > reload/add from file... menu item, and then in the Windows file dialog, navigate back to the C:\TEMPLOT\BOX-FILES\ folder.

But it's not recommended to load files from Templot2 back into 091c -- it won't crash, but some parts of the templates may not display properly.

Now that you have mentioned this, I will add a load old-version files menu item so that you can go straight back to them. In the next program update shortly. Thanks for the suggestion. :thumb:

Thanks very much, I was scared of updating to Templot 2.

Is there any need to keep the old version once you have templot 2 please

Do they have seperate icons, if not how do you go from one to the other please.

I would strongly advise you to keep version 0.9 of Templot.
Recently I had a fault on a telephone line which took BT almost a month to resolve, during which time I had no broadband connection, and so was unable to use Templot 2.  I reverted to using 0.9 which I still had on my computer.  I didn't notice any significant problems in loading box files created in Templot2 into 0.9, nor in subsequently re-loading them into Templot2 after BT finally bestirred themselves into repairing the line.
I did of course notice the loss of functionality that is available in Templot2, and it made it very clear just how far Templot2 has developed in a relatively short space of time, and how much of that I had begun to "take for granted".  Once you've got used to the differences in Templot 2 you won't regret the move.
But I'd advise keeping version 0.9, just in case.....

Hi John,

You paid me for the old version. It runs without needing an internet connection.

Templot2 is free. It doesn't.

If you ever need to use Templot where you have no internet connection, the old version will work just as before. Nothing about it is changed by installing Templot2.

Templot2 will work without an internet connection only if you selected the Hibernate function when previously shutting down your computer.

However, Templot2 contains many new features and improvements, so there isn't really any reason not to use it whenever you can.

Yes, there are two desktop icons. They both use the same yellow hard-hat symbol, but the old one is labelled "Templot" and the new one is labelled "Templot2".

Hi John,

I have now added this menu item to provide quicker access to old Templot .box files:

2_100940_290000000.png2_100940_290000000.png

This will be greyed out if Templot can't find the old C:\TEMPLOT\BOX-FILES\ folder -- so if you saved your old files elsewhere, or renamed this folder, this function will not be available. However, I imagine most users who need this function will have used the old default location.

In the next program update soon. :)

Thanks, not had time to do anything yet as having trouble with my internet connection, which becomes vey slow in the evenings. Trouble is that I am with Virgin using a BT landline, it seems its very hard to get BT to look into the problem, as I dont have internet with BT

As you will have gathered from my previous message I too have had problems with BT.  In the end I wrote a letter to Ian Livingstone, CEO, BT Group plc and had a number of conversations with a less than helpful person in the Chairman's Office - but the matter did get resolved.  Without that it might have been two months with no broadband rather than one!  Call centre staff were unfailingly polite and sympathetic but there is very little they can actually do.  Rattling cages at the very top at least makes those overpaid types realise what a shambles they are actually in charge of!  Worth a go for the cost of a stamp.

Thanks, I have emailed Virgins and BT's CEO's (Virgin several times) You are quite right that both complaints departments are worse than usless. Virgin have admitted several times that there is a speed issue with the line failing as the night progresses, but moving the problem on from Virgin to BT is near impossable.

However living in a rural area I rarely achieve 2mb due to the distance from the exchange and the condition of the line between my home and the exchange.

If Virgin admit there's a fault with the line, and acknowledge that it's not your end, then they ought to pass the fault onto BT for testing. I had a similar problem with Namesco (NDO), spent some time trying the things they requested to no avail, but finally they agreed to pass it on to BT. The BT engineer didn't even need to get to the house; first thing he did was check the exchange end and immediately found a faulty board.

You won't get anywhere by going direct to BT as the first line responsibility is your ISP. When you say complaints department, you do mean their technical support, rather than general complaints? I'd suggest making it clear to them that you want it passed to BT.

The line responsibilty is the organisation that you pay the line rental too, which is not always your ISP

My understanding is that as regards broadband performance the first line of support is your ISP.

It depends who you ralk to and according to Virgin (and rhry did record it) You dont stand much of a chance getting it fixed if you phone line provider is different from your internet

Thankfully thy telephone started playing up and after 2 + hours the BT engineer has replaced the outside line after agreeing there was a problem on the line. As a result my speeds are up on the internet, whether they stay this good during the evening will be proved.

I did tell them that my equipment was fine, especially as after buying both new telephone extension and ethernet cables and fitting therm there was no difference. But they seemed very reluctant to get BT involved
