I have been asked to build a slip in 00 gauge with the following

1: A straight road bottom left to top right

2: Curved road top left to bottom tight at a radius of 1500mm (curve is like a letter C on its back)

3: Slip top left to top right

I have just finished (hopefully) a curved diamond and had to build it in 00-SF to get it to work, but with this idea when I play around with Templot, the 2 halves of the diamond are un-equal in size, and when I try and add a slip road, I just cant see how it will work.

Cannot upload a "print screen" shot to help with the description, but any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

John

Hi John,

We can't answer that without knowing the crossing angle? 1500mm radius (5ft approx) isn't too severe, so a suitable irregular diamond across a straight should be possible.

But to add inside slip roads, the crossing angle can't be less than about 1:6, and preferably longer. For shorter diamonds it is necessary to make it an outside slip instead.

regards,

Martin.

That was very quick, thank you I will try and do a quick Templot file to illustrate the problem I have.

Thank you again

I have just attached a quick plan of the proposed slip, I have only at this moment used rails without sleepers just to show the position of the 3 tracks.

I overlayed a straight and curved diamond over a B6 then just added a slip road, I still have my doubts that it is buildable in 00 gauge. Any advice would be most welcome

Thanks  John

I tried to post this a minute ago and it vanished into the ether - sorry if it dupes.Rapidly learning that it is a waste of time to try to use this forum with Google Chrome!

Looks like the perfect opporunity to build one of these...

Can't imaging it working 00 though!

Best wishes,

Hi Howard,

I don't like Chrome. The extra speed seems to be gained at the expense of inconsistency, and it will keep contacting Google to keep them informed of what you are doing, even if you ask it nicely not to.

Firefox always works fine for me, and it's the same browser on Ubuntu.

Back to John's slip...

Martin.

Hi John,

It's doable:

nullnull2_120703_140000000.png2_120703_140000000.png
2_120703_140000001.png2_120703_140000001.png
However, you will have some tricky construction at the K-crossing check rail if you persist with the 00/H0 wide flangeways. I'm minded to remove this gauge from Templot. You should use 00-BF and ideally 00-SF when building complex formations such as this. If you must have the wide flangeways, I would suggest making it a switch-diamond, even though the crossing angle is only 1:5.5.

You can do this only in Templot2, earlier versions do not support irregular diamonds.

The crossing angles are 4.24 , 5.54 , 10.03

The slip road radius is 706mm (28") and would need a bit of gauge-widening in 00-SF.

The slip switches are 1:24 on the left (A) and 1:40 on the right (C).

regards,

Martin.

Thank you, I have downloaded Templot 2 today, but had the BT engineer here for over 2 hours then a long conversation with another person about whether to use plastic or ply sleepers, not got much done today. No problem in building it in 00-SF, I thought it was a given. Those blades on the short side might be a bit stiff.

I will go back to my friend and give him the good news

Thanks again

John

Thank you very much for replying, sorry for the delay in answering but my internet was down whilst the BT engineer was here

That would take some building !!

Hi John,

The file which you uploaded was in 00/H0 (with 1.5mm flangeways).

regards,

Martin.

Thanks all, I got the larger radius wrong, it needs to be 5000mm not 1500mm.

I have made a quick start on it, by just adding together a straight, curved and slip track over a B6 diamond crossing. Can someone please point me in the direction of either a thread or instructions of how to make a slip with one straight and one curved road please.

Thanks in advance

Here is the diamond - not sure that the slip road will be that easy to fit - have a go and see I suppose!
To make  the diamond, with one of the roads as the Control, highlight the other, and from the pop up menu select Peg/Align > D Make diamond at intersection.
Cheers,
Howard

Hi John,

First make an irregular diamond-crossing. Use method 3 explained here:

topic 2080

Then add a slip road in the usual way. Use a slip switch at each end appropriate for the V-crossing angle at that end.

For example in the screenshots in my previous message, I used a 1:24 (A) slip switch where the V-crossing angle was 1:4 and a 1:40 (C) slip switch where the V-crossing angle was 1:10. You may need to move the switches along a bit (CTRL+F6) to get a good match to the slip road  -- some trial and error may be needed. Alternatively you can use the make transition function to create the linking slip road.

regards,

Martin.

Thank you both

I have quickly adjusted the plan for slip timbers, I now need to read Martins link to see if I am on the right track re the slip. Thank you both again for the assistance

Sorry no screen shot as I have not got that far yet with my Templot knowlage
