Since the update in July 2011, which allowed picture shape wrapping, I've used the facility occasionally and I don't remember any problem getting it to work. However, I haven't used it since early 2012 and spent last evening trying to wrap a scanned map to the control template, a transition curve. The result I kept getting was the background image rotated 180 degrees around the notch, which was under the peg of the control template, but on a mirror (on the 'Y' axis) of the curve of the control. It's very likely I'm missing something obvious here, but I haven't worked out what yet and it may be connected to the "straighten along the control template" function, which I believe should be used first, but which appears not to do anything at all. I don't remember using that (or seeing it) previously though and a search of the site didn't produce any hints. Any ideas, or instructions on how to do it correctly, would be MOST welcome. Geoff |

They didn't seem to generate as much interest as I expected so I moved on to other things. Perhaps everyone was just baffled? I will try to get some proper notes done as soon as possible. regards, Martin. |

Thanks Martin, I'll look forward to those. Maybe everyone WAS baffled and I certainly am now. I just don't understand how I managed it before, but now can't. I'll keep plugging away at it. Geoff |

GeoffS wrote: I just don't understand how I managed it before, but now can't.Hi Geoff, At a guess, try changing the hand of the control template onto which you are wrapping (invert handing, CTRL-X) and/or swapping it end-for-end, CTRL-N. regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, Don't want you to think your reply wasn't appreciated, I know you've better things to do than spend time on this. I got sidetracked into repairing some wind damage yesterday evening, so I've just tried your suggestions and achieved mixed results, circular, spiral nebula shapes. So today, so far, has been more fascination than frustration and I'm going to have to look more closely at what is actually happening with each change/combination. I've also tried (swap hand, CTRL-H) as an option, but without doing it in a sensible controlled way, so I'll go back and experiment further. More later. Regards, Geoff |

Oh, that'll be great, but sorry for the extra work. I haven't fully analysed the results of my playing about yet, but it would seem that the position of the background image with regard to the x,y datum affects the result? Hopefully the tutorial will explain my grey areas Regards, Geoff |

Hi Geoff, I have now added some more to the image wrapping tutorial: http://templot.com/companion/index.html?wrap_picture_shape_to_curve.htm You may need to press CTRL+F5 refresh to see it. It's not completely finished and indexed, but that is all I have time for today. regards, Martin. |

Martin, I'm most grateful. All is now clear, except for how I managed to succeed before. Thank you for your help and apologies for the delay in my reply, Wakefield was too close to resist. Regards, Geoff |
