If you look at the track diagram of Cockett Station Goods yard, you will see two trap or catch points just after the first turnout in the yard. To put the layout into context there is a 1:200 rising gradient over virtually the whole length of the branch from the station to the yard.

My original thoughts were that the trap points were to protect the turnout and therefore slaved to it's lever, but later thoughts incline to thinking they are to prevent runaways down the gradient, and would therefore have their own lever. No. Looked in TNA, but the only copy they've got is after the layout was rationalised and the Goods Branch abolished. In any case, the Goods branch was not operated from the signal box. I presume there was a ground frame or individual point levers

I am sure you are right about the GF but I also suspect that there would be a release for it from the box and therefore the box diagram would show (shew?) the arrangement. Does the SRS have anything?

Not enough levers in the signal box. I've managed to (re)construct the signal box diagram and, I think, the locking, and there are two peculiarities. There are detonaters, but only the Down side has a lever in the Signal Box. The Up side has a separate lever on the platform (I suspect in a shed or the waiting room lock-up). Further, the turnout to the Goods Branch was controlled by a ground lever. I've got a track plan that clearly states this.

The branch was worked by train staff, and the gates to the J. Thomas sawmill (drawn in as it was added after the diagram was produced) was unlocked by a key on the staff, as was the stop block immediately in front on the GWR side, so if there was any locking, it was done that way. I can't imagine that the branch entry turnout wasn't locked, but there's no documentary evidence of this or any other locking.

Looked at the SRS website, and I can't see anything. If any member knows differently, I'd love to hear from them.
