The latest Firefox 22 update has wrecked Templot Club and every other web site for users on 120dpi (125%) screens or higher. 1px in the CSS is no longer 1 pixel on the screen and all images are fuzzy. This is the worst Firefox update in living memory:

http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/962945

Until Mozilla change this back, pressing Ctrl-Minus twice restores the previous page view.

You need do this only once, Firefox will then remember it for all Templot Club pages.

If you use the Windows default 96dpi (100%) please disregard this.

regards,

Martin.

Not sure what my settings are etc., but the upgrade has just happened on my PC. It has made everything seem sharper - incredibly sharp, in fact. Might even delay the next visit to the opticians ;)

I have to agree with RC.  On Windows 7, everything seems nice and crisp.  To be honest, I don't think I even knew you could change the dpi of the screen - surely that's set by the monitor?

Edit - I didn't explain that at all well :?  I obviously know the screen resolution can be changed, but surely that takes the dpi with it?  On my 1280x1024 monitor with a height of around 10.5", that's about 97dpi.  How does changing the % dpi not affect the resolution?

In Win 7, Go to
Control Panel
Appearances and Personalisation
Display

and you have a choice of
"Smaller"(100%)
"Medium" (125%)
"Larger" (150%)

I didn't know about it until this morning after Martin's message.

Cheers for now

Hi Paul,

Font size is often specified in Point (pt) sizes. 1pt. is 1/72nd of an inch. The screen DPI setting determines how big such fonts will appear on the screen.

So for example 12pt. text is 12/72" = 1/6" high. If the screen DPI is set to 96 DPI, the 12pt font will be 96dots x 1/6th inch = 16 dots (pixels) high.

If the screen DPI is set to 120 DPI, the 12pt font will be 120dots x 1/6th inch = 20 dots (pixels) high.

The Windows default is 96 DPI. But that has always been too small for me, and on every system since Windows95 I have changed it to 120 DPI. I'm a bit amazed that some folks don't know about this. :?

If you are anything like me, the default (96dpi) setting is far too small, and has been in all versions of Windows back to Windows95. I always set 120dpi on all my systems, which is now called "Medium".

Martin.

The BIG advantage of working with the default 100% setting is that documents and drawings in programs such as Word actually appear at ACTUAL size on screen.

This is very valuable when working on modelling projects.

It does depend, of course, on the dot pitch of the monitor but this is rarely quoted in the specifications.

Regards.

Ah, OK - this is a text size setting.  I was thinking of screen size/resolution and dpi being inextricably linked, not thinking about individual elements within the display, if that makes sense!  My eyesight is at a weird point where I can focus quite happily on small text at a "normal" viewing distance from a screen, but need different glasses either side of that!
I'm a bit amazed that some folks don't know about this.
I'm always amazed that folks don't know about the single-click setting in Folder Options so they have to double-click everything, or the Underline Keyboard Shortcut feature (the latter I think I found out about here) :D

I get this as well, and a bit of googling suggests that it's a common problem.  FF used to be a brilliant browser but like many programs, it seems to have lost its way.  Even Foxit PDF Reader has become bloated and buggy!

If you do have this problem, you can download a copy of a previous version from here:
http://filehippo.com/download_firefox/
Just install it and it will overwrite v22.

Cheers

Dave
