Hi all

Having spent a lot of time and research to create a track plan of the local LNWR station in Daventry, I now need to output a DXF file for the CAD designer at our local model club, so he can incorporate it into the final overall design for the baseboards and everything else.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to export the DXF file but every time, whatever settings I tried i get no error message, but no file is created.
I tried to create a PDF (well within the Acrobat reader limits) but whatever I did no file was created.
I tried printing to my epson A3 printer, which either failed to print anything or spat out a blank sheet.

I am at a loss to understand where i am going wrong, having printed and created files without problem from an earlier version of Templot2 a couple of years ago. I have trawled through the forum for similar problems, but I think now is the time to raise a topic to beg for help and suggestions.

I am running Templot v208c in Windows 7 via VMware Fusion on a 17" MacBook Pro laptop.

Overall track plan is approximately 4700x900mm.

regards Keith

Hi Keith,

Please can you post your .box file here for me to have a look at?

It's rare for anyone to have problems exporting to DXF.

Are you sure no file is created? By default it will be in your C:\TEMPLOT_DEV\DXF-FILES\ folder.

Only background templates can be exported to DXF. The control template, unused templates, and library templates are not exported. Copy them to the background first.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Keith

I've used VMWare Player (the Windows version) in the past, and printing problems usually came down to not connecting the device (printer) to VMWare correctly.  I don't know how you do that running Fusion on a Mac.  Do other programs print OK to the same printer when running within VMWare?

Is it possible to copy the file to a real PC running Templot to see if you can export a DXF on there?  Although VMWare is very good, there are sometimes odd quirks inherent in running Windows on a non-native system!

Cheers

Hi Martin,
I went to look for the box file th the box folder, and the sketch board file in that file and i cannot see any of the files the folders in the windows browser, but i CAN see them within the Templot program.
If I can't see the files in the browser, I can't add them to my Templot Club postings.
Any ideas what is making the files invisible? :-/
regards Keith

Hi Paul,

I use all the usual MS Office Apps like Word etc and they all print to my laser printer and the Epson without problem. Even to my daughters WiFi printer.

Unfortunately o don't own a regular PC anymore, but I think the issue may be Windows related because I have just found out i cannot see any of the files I have saved within the Templot Dev folders via the Windows browser or find file utility —— even though they are all there when I browse within the Templot Application — so now I'm thinking this is NOT a Templot problem.

Possibly a permissions thing? Although I am signed in as the Admin user :-(

regards Keith

Hi Martin

I have just found another reason why I dislike Windoze and love Mac!

In the browser bar menu I saw an item called "Compatability" and all my invisible files suddenly appeared -- WTF!!-- I'm assuming this is a Windows protection thing that it doesn't recognise a file if Microsoft hasn't written it.

Anyways, now I have a whole load of files to look at to see what worked the way I wanted it to.

I'm sure I'll be back in touch fairly soon as I am still learning this amazing program.

regards Keith

Hi Keith,

If you can see the file in the Templot file dialog, right-click on it there and then click Copy.

You can then paste it somewhere else on your system which is visible in Windows.

regards,

Martin.
