I've offered to help a friend on this small diorama, but realised it is beyond my capabilities, so wondered if anyone here would like a challenge.

He is building a 7mm 'Ivor the Engine' diorama and would like this small section of track to demo his loco.

It will be 7mm coarse scale, but the radii may even be outside the realms of Templot. To be honest it's beyond my own capabilities, so wondered if anyone can assist. The straight should be around 700mm and the radii of the curves to the Y in the region of 300mm.

I appreciate just how tight these are but wondered if it could be possible?

Here's a couple of pics to show what he requires in track terms.

Many thanks!

Hi Gordon,

Peter asked me for this the other day, but now Templot is free I can only help via this forum.

The Y-turnout is tricky because it requires about 1:1.3, and Templot goes down only to 1:1.5. Even at 290mm radius (11.5") it still requires a bit more than 700mm over the straight. These turnouts are 9ftGWR+1:2.1 curviform. The Y-turnout is just a fudge:

It would all be a lot easier if Peter could go just a bit wider. Although Ivor can probably get round those curves, I doubt he could pull any trucks because of buffer locking and coupling issues.

regards,

Martin.

Thanks Martin. Peter very kindly produced a bridge parapet plan for me for ET, so I had hoped to repay his kindness. It wasn't until I tried last night did I realise what was involved with such a simple plan..:-)

I'll pass on the link to him.

Thanks again.

Can you let me have a copy of the box file please, Martin? I can then convert it and send it to Peter.

Thanks again.

Hi Gordon,

I would rather not do that until the Y-turnout is done properly and the timbering shoved. This was just a quick dabble to see what would fit. I need to know if Peter is committed to 700mm ish, or could go wider. Another 100-200mm would make a big difference.

regards,

Martin.

Just checked and the maximum width Peter can accommodate is 850mm.

Hope that helps.

Hi Gordon,

By using irregular half-diamonds instead of turnouts I have managed to get it within 700mm:

I will post the .box file tomorrow when I have done the timbering.

Martin.

Hi Gordon,

I have now added some timbering. It's a prototype nonsense of course, but looks the part: :)
