I have tried to search working off line, using computer off line and looking at the Menu on Templot so I can shut Templot off so I can work off line. I am either asking the wrong question and or being blind to the obvious. Please how do I turn Templot off so I can work off line. Thanks in advance |

Hi John, I'm not sure what you mean by turning Templot off, but if you mean running Templot without an internet connection the only way is to disconnect from the internet after starting Templot. See paragraph 3 at: http://templot.com/companion/index.html?terms_of_use.htm If you use the Hibernate function when turning your computer off, Templot (and all your other running programs) will restart where you left off when you turn the computer back on, without needing an internet connection. regards, Martin. |

Martin Thank you, I must have misunderstood what has been said in other replies in the past. The reason for the question is that I am doing a track building demonstration at a local show in May. The last one I did I was asked quite a few questions about Templot. Its much easier to show the answer so I have just borrowed an old laptop which I can take with me to show (providing its not too technical) rather than talk in answering any questions that may arise. The most common statement is that I cannot make a template, or how do you start (these are questions I can answer) You have just answered my question, thanks again John |

A word of warning however, as I found out. If you are planning to connect a projector to the computer at your demo it might not work when you connect to your computer from hibernation. I found this out at a demo I gave. Luckily I had a copy of 91c on another laptop that I was able to show but it was disappointing not to be able to show the latest version. Alan |

Alan Thank you but there is no chance of doing that, I am just giving a track building demonstration for the day at the local model railway show (SW Herts MRS) and when I did the Watford Finescale show, many said they were baffled with Templot. Just want to show how easy the basics are thats all. |

It connects to the internet via the mobile phone system. It simply plugs into a USB socket on the laptop and off you go. Templot will use only a tiny fraction of the data quota, and you can unplug it as soon as Templot is running if you wish. Let me know. I really would very much prefer that you demonstrate only the latest version of Templot2. The whole point of locking to the internet is so that everyone is using the latest version, and beginners don't get misled by using or being shown or told about out of date versions. For example only Templot2 has irregular diamonds, the sketchboard, dummy vehicle, etc., and prints prominent "set" and "planing" marks on the templates. If I let Templot2 be used without the internet lock I just know that folks will go on using the same version for years without upgrading and then we shall be back to the previous state of utter confusion. regards, Martin. |

Martin I am on Templot 2 and my son in law suggested I get a cable from my phone to the laptop as another option. However as I am in a school hall it is quite likely the phone signal is not very good owing to the buildings construction |

There seems to be some discrepancy between the digital world we are all alleged to be living in, and the practical reality.  Martin. |

Martin Thanks for that but I am not really up to speed with the finer points on the laptop and unless I have it attached to my phone I doubt if there is a wifi available. I only live about a mile and a bit away so I will fire it up at home and hope for the best. You never know the school may have a wifi I can use |

Fully charge battery, start Templot at home and plug in to the power as soon as you get to the school. Old laptops tend to have old batteries that don't last long. |

Well doing what they said did not work and not being very Technical had no idea what to change. So back to your idea, fired up the laptop at home and just closed the lid. In the hall attached it to the mains and woke it up and it was fine all day. There was a guest wifi there but would not connect for some reason. Anyway was usable all day, I must say all the interest was mainly with the track building and predictable as it was more of a family show than a specialist one. But there was some interest and I was able to show a few how easy it is to use in its basic form. I must admit after seeing Alley Pally where they had quite a few demonstrations going on, its a pity that smaller shows don't follow suit. The hosting club may struggle as members are needed to be stewards, but other local clubs could supply the odd person who would build something. The public love it |

Went into the Vodafone shop and talked about the phone not working as Wifi connection, they suggested that \I use the Wifi hot spot on my phone, then scan with the laptop using the wifi in the computer | ||
