Has anyone run Templot successfully on a Windows Surface Pro 2 tablet running windows 8.1? I am considering getting one to replace my existing laptop, but not being able to run Templot would be a deal-breaker. |

Hi Bill, Whilst I haven't tried Templot on Win8.1, I feel I should point out that you need to ensure that it is indeed Win8.1 on an Intel-based Surface device, rather than WinRT on an ARM-based Surface device. IF I remember the details correctly, the Surface Pro's are all Intel-based and run Win8.1, while the regular Surface devices are ARM-based. To tell the two types apart (if there's no CLEAR labelling imprinted on the device itself), is to look for a Desktop "icon" in the Start Screen. If it's there, you're running Win8.1. WinRT only has the "Metro" mode, as the different CPU is not capable of running standard Windows programs - they would have to be specially re-compiled to use the ARM instruction set. As for the "Metro" interface, either programs like the MS Office suite have been recompiled specifically or have been written in such a way as to be CPU agnostic, like Java. IF you do indeed get a Surface Pro device, I suspect that you're only difficulty will be using a touch-screen interface to operate Templot accurately. But you should be able to attach a keyboard and mouse to it fairly easily. Regards,Tim Lyth Bill_Lobb wrote: Has anyone run Templot successfully on a Windows Surface Pro 2 tablet running windows 8.1? I am doing just that right now. it is fine but do have a big screen to plug into even with a normal computer the big screen helps an great deal. However, this morning was sitting around waiting for a meeting with my surface pro and started doodling. using the touch and keyboard and pen as suitable for each task.

For clarity the ARM based Surface does have a desktop tile (icon) as you access the file manager and the built in Microsoft Office from there.
