Is it possible to specify start and finish radii and shift of a transition and let the length take care of itself rather than starting with a length of plain line and entering the radii. This would help if you are trying to fit a 180 degree curve transitioning to straight at either end in a limited space. Knowing the circular radius and the shift would give the separation of the two straights. |

One of them is stored as a background template and the other is the control template. You can then create a transition curve between them using the make transition function. After which it is usual to delete the dummy templates, and extend/shorten the new transition template to replace them. More about that function here: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm http://templot.com/companion/index.html?info_files_make_trans.htm If one of the initial templates is itself a transition curve template, you must position its red fixing peg within it where the radius matches your required arc. If that position is within the transition zone, you must split the transition template at that exact location to match the new one -- tools > make split > make split at peg menu item. More about transition curves here: http://www.templot.com/martweb/gs_geometry.htm#transition Those pages are years out of date, like so much of the docs, but the basics are still the same. You can also find the make transition function being used in many videos, for example this one: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/scruffs/h0_overlay.exe regards, Martin. |
