Since Templot was first released 15 years ago, computer printers have moved on and printed colours now seem more intense.

Accordingly, I have perhaps belatedly reduced the default intensity of the infill colours used for the rails and timbers on the printed templates. This makes the black rail edge lines more prominent, especially for flat-bottom rails. It also has the advantage of using less coloured ink. :)

The colours can of course be changed to whatever you want on the output menu options, and there is an intensity control over-ride on the print preview dialog.

Also, I have removed the rather obtrusive default timber infill hatching when printing in black & white, printing in a single colour, and for flatbed plotters. Likewise this can be turned back on if required on the output menu options.

These changes will be in the next program update.

I'm making these changes in some trepidation -- no two printers are ever quite the same, and the existing defaults have served well for many years. If you find the colour printing now unsatisfactory please let me know. I have tested the changes on recent Epson and Canon inkjet printers and I'm happy that the results are an improvement for use as construction templates.

But we don't necessarily want the less intense colour in diagram-mode outputs, so there is a new menu option to set that colour independently:

The default is the same steely-blue colour as before.

But don't forget that you can set any colour for groups of templates in diagram-mode by giving them a marker colour -- for colourful control panels and signal box diagrams.

regards,

Martin.
