Hello, This is my first post here. I am not new to Templot but I have little experience for what I try to achieve. Attached is my attempt in creating the plan for a very old station; I managed to design the turntable but now I want to connect the three lines into one using a tandem turnout but I cannot get smooth curves from the three exits to the existing lines. Hello, I think you may struggle trying to join into a tandem.I think it would be more likely to succeed if you make a tandem turnout on its own first.Once you have the tandem it would then be a question of extending the three routes to the turntable.Doing tandems is one of the more complex formations that take quite a bit of time to grasp and succeed with.If you do a search for tandems you will find a few posts from me and others which provide quite a lot of advice from Martin and those that have been successful. I managed following the video tutorial, use either the middle line or one of the outer ( I get confused between a 3 way and tandem) as your datum, then extend the other two exit lines to reach the other two siding lines, as the length between the tandem and turntable can be altered in length on the baseboard | ||

Thank you both for your input. Maybe I am an idiot (although I have a degree in IT) but it looks like I cannot "speak" the same language as Templot does and, without a proper video tutorial, it seems that I won't be able to plan a tandem turnout (if I try one more time I might be tempted to throw my laptop out of the window). If it's not too much, can someone make and email me a tandem turnout in 2FS with 1 in 6 crossings? Thank you! |

Hi Valentin, Welcome to Templot Club. Your screenshot didn't include a tandem turnout, so it is difficult to help. Perhaps you could post a sketch of what you are trying to do? Tandem turnouts are not straightforward, there are several variables and important considerations. Hello Martin, Thank you for your reply. The thing is that I have read the instructions pointed by your links many times but every time I ended with no results. Hi Valentin, A tandem with both turnout roads on the same side is a little tricky. I have attached a box file showing rails only that may help. In order to avoid check rail etc. conflicts the A6 turnout has a curviform Vee and the branch track has the same radius as the A6 turnout road. Note the timbers need to be reinstated and then shoved as necessary. A tandem with one turnout to the right and the other one to the left is somewhat easier to do and might be a better choice for that location. |

I'm keen to make the docs as helpful as possible. The second turnout is a B-9 and the middle V-crossing is 1:14.25 A better design would be to change the first turnout to a curviform V-crossing, increasing the spacing between the middle and lower tracks. Hello Martin, John. Thank you both for your advice. Martin, I don't want to do any work in Templot today; I will start again within a couple of days, with a clear mind, following your instructions and make a note for everything which is unclear then the feedback will be posted here. With regard to my plan, it's not important if the main road is the middle road or not; as John said I would be happy to have a double-sided tandem turnout if this is better. I've chosen to have 1 in 6 crossings because I try to build this layout with the smallest footprint. Thanks again for your help, Valentin |

Hi Valentin, Find attached a box file of a 7 mm/ft B8 - A6 tandem just to show how much shorter it is than two turnouts end to end. Certainly, it can be built in the mirror image if you so choose. Regards John |
