Martin, May I congratulate you on the Templot system it is truly wonderful. I have been building my own points since the early 60s when we riveted brass pins into fibre strip purchased from George Mellor, and then we had the revelation of copper clad and how much easier did life get after that innovation. To be quite honest I am not of the computer generation - in fact I am to computing what King Herod was to babysitting and that fact is a total frustration. I have tried to come to terms with designing my own points and have watched the Templot tutorials till the early hours on many occasions but without much success. I have had some success designing simple points but my particular desire is to replace the 3-ways on my layout. I drew them up with pencil and paper and although they work they leave a lot to be desired. Do you run courses on basic Templot or do you know anybody who does? I read on this forum that it is possible to copy existing pointwork with a Templot design and for me that has to be the way forward but my proficiency on the computer is not high enough. Any suggestions but be very welcome and my problems are of my own making I fully understand the potential of your system and I really want to be a part of it. With very sincere regards, Salmon Pastures http://salmonpastures.blogspot.com/ |

Hello Salmon Pastures, Thanks for your kind words. Do you run courses on basic Templot or do you know anybody who does? Sorry, I don't run courses on Templot. I don't believe it is complex enough to require a course. It's just a fun thing for a hobby -- I would hate the idea to get about that you need to go on a course in order to use it. If you are a member of the Scalefour Society, the North London Group of that society are holding a Templot skills-building day with Tony Wilkins of this parish. 11th April 2015 at Apsley, Hemel Hempstead. Cost £20, places limited (may be fully booked by now). I can send you contact information, email me: martin@templot.com 3-way tandem turnouts are not straightforward, it's best to get some experience with Templot first. See this recent post: topic 2635 - message 18128 Jumping in at the deep end is the reason folks get in a muddle. regards, Martin. |

Salmon Pastures I to am also a bit of a Luddite where using computer programs are concerned and for many years spliced single turnout templates together with mixed success. Martins new tutorial/video is very easy to follow, just Templot running at the same time as the tutorial, using the pause button copy it using the turnout and orientation sizes you require. Providing you learn at the outset how to alter a standard turnout (size, curvature etc) then you stand a good chance of using the 3 way tutorial to produce a turnout. It is easy to send(upload) a copy of the template to the forum for comments/help. Another tip is to save a copy after 3 or 4 actions, so if you make a mistake its easier to go back to an earlier part of the build than start all over again Good luck John |
