I note that the Templot2 is available and lock-release code numbers are no longer being issued. I do note from this forum that an internet connection is required every time Templot2 is opened. However I wish to use Templot on a computer (either with windows 7 or XP) that is installed in my railway shed but there is no internet connection. I am more than happy with the old version of Templot which is on the disc that I have.

Is there a way around the problem.

Many thanks for any information you may have for me.

All the best

Robert

Hi Robert,

The old version will work indefinitely on the computer for which your lock-release code was supplied.

But Templot2 has a great many new functions and features, see:

 topic 1511 - message 9413

Templot2 requires an internet connection only during start-up.

If the shed computer is a laptop you can start Templot2 where you do have an internet connection, and then without quitting Templot use the Hibernate option when switching the laptop off. This doesn't use any battery power, and it will restart with Templot2 running without needing an internet connection.

Alternatively, if you have a mains power supply to the shed and an internet connection in the house, you can use Powerline network adaptors to get internet in the shed through the mains. For example see:

 http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-av500-500-mbps-nano-powerline-adapter-starter-kit-n20nr

Or you may be able to get a broadband connection in the shed using a mobile broadband dongle. Or if you have a 3G mobile phone, many of these can be set up to operate as a WiFi hub. Templot2 will use only a tiny fraction of your data quota.

regards,

Martin.

Hello Robert,
If you have wireless available you need one of these for computers without.

I have these on my desktops and it is also possible to take it where you need it if required.
Regards.

Robert

buy a wifi dongle (or whatever it's called) that plugs into one of the exterior ports on your computer, they are quite cheap and very effective. Very useful having internet access in the railway room
