Hi All I have got into a pickle with the layout plan I am working and so I am looking for some guidance please. I have used used transition curves extensively throughout and am now attempting to add a loco release arrangement The information box shows a tight radius warning on TLO89. As this is track end location it may not matter as vehicles using it should be going slow. However I really need to understand this move for further additions later on. I have used the 'Crossover on Transition Curve' dropdown for advice but must be misunderstanding the instruction.Starting with:- 'First using the MOVE TRANSITION START (SHIFT+CTRL-F3) mouse action, move the transition start marker on the newly created turnout until it aligns with the transition end marker on the original turnout'. I thought that this would lengthen the heel of the switch but it doesn't seem to have done this. In addition I am a bit mystified about this instruction 'transition start marker on the newly created turnout until it aligns with the transition end marker on the original turnout'. Is the 'original turnout the one on the other track'? The transition markers I can see on both of the approach tracks but not as part of the switches Perhaps I need to cut down the size of the template but am worrying that I will loose the transition through the switches if I try this. Hi Clive, Welcome to Templot Club.  Crossovers in transition curves do often require a bit of fiddling about to get the best result. The good news however, is that this isn't one. It is entirely contained within the fixed-radius sections outside the transition zones. So you can simply split it off from the transition curves and make an ordinary curved crossover. I will make you a bit of video shortly, showing that. The inside radius on TL089 is showing as 677mm / 26.7" which I would regard as too sharp for 00-D0GAF in this location. As it is a loco release crossover it is likely to be used by main-line locomotives. Going slow doesn't really make much difference as to whether they will fit the curve (or look good in the process). As you seem to have plenty of space, it would be better to lengthen this to say a B-7.5 (964mm / 37.9"), or maybe only B-7 (867mm / 34.1") if you are in fact tight for space. Or alternatively if you want to retain the short B-6 turnout you could perhaps ease the curving radius in the main road. p.s. Is that a firm decision to adopt 00-D0GAF because of your existing models? Many 00 modellers now prefer the 00-SF option instead, as this avoids the need to widen wheel back-to-backs, saving work and leaving models still compatible with other 00 layouts. Good quality 00-SF gauge tools are available from C&L. My remarks about the radius would remain the same. regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin, many thanks for your speedy reply. It has given me plenty to think about. Not least the gauge choice. I will have to have a look at the specs on the internet before giving a definative answer. However 1:7 would be ok by me as I have made up some 1 in 7 vees Regards Clive |

I Have now got the SF gauges and have changed the plan to SF.also have changed the vee angle to 7.5. I would like to say how much the videos you and others have provided help with understanding Templot as I can play the vid on a laptop and follow it on my PC.
