Updated yesterday to latest version

I run under a Windows 7 parallels box on a Mac

I notice two issues I do t think I've seen before

1. Lots of drop down menus have " extra" blank spaces ie a menu item would have 1 blank clickable space above and below. Maybe this is by design

2. The other strange thing , is the right click , menu ( IE the one with X & M ( make the template etc ). Now pops up at the extreme left of the screen , it doesn't seem to be movable. I often have desktop widgets there and the menu appears under everything ( that's correct )

Can that menu be customised as to where it pops up , on a big 27 " mac the menu often ends up miles away from the application window

Hi Dave,

Yes, it is by design. I thought the menus looked too densely packed and adding some blank space around the more frequently used items might make them easier to find.

The jury is still out on this -- I like it, but I realise others may find it confusing. The blank lines are disabled, so shouldn't flash as the mouse runs over them. Unfortunately this doesn't apply on all versions of Windows. In Windows10 it seems to work quite nicely.

You can change the menu style at main > program panel > program > menu style (Windows) > menu options, but sorry I have no idea how that works on a Mac and it is not available under Wine/CrossOver.

The proper answer is either to stop using so many menus, or make the entire menu structure OwnerDraw. That's a massive programming task either way, and wouldn't add a single bit of new functionality to Templot. So it will have to wait until I break my leg and have nothing else to do for a few months. :)

That's not the right-click menu, it is each background template's own context menu when selected. There is no change there, it has always appeared on the far left of the screen. You are the first to ask to move it -- I will see what I can do.

regards,

Martin.

Thanks. Martin

The context menu placing didn't occur in my older version , right now even moving the application window doesn't un stick the context menu position.

As a general comment any free floating menu should be resizeable and movable. Simply because with modern desktops , you have a plethora of widgets and screen " gadgets " that typical sit on the top Z layer obliterating anything under them . This is especially true of menus that float outside the main application screen.

X Windows applications suffer the same issues these days as the modern desktop is a bit different from when X Windows was conceived.

Regards

Hi Dave,

I haven't made any changes, so if the behaviour has changed it must be your Mac doing that.

But I have now -- your wish is my command: :)

The settings are included in your saved program preferences (if you are saving them).

In the next program update coming shortly.

regards,

Martin.
