I,ve had a idea for a modern image layout which is to fit in a 12ft x 11ft space. i,ve managed to knock up a small un scaled plan of what i want. I was wondering if anyone fancied the challenge to design it me on templot im terrible with track design software. The idea is based on rosegrove as it is now its OO finescale using SMP track on the front with peco code 75 at the back.

I can upload a image of the front of the layout design i think its best to actually curve the layout right around so the whole layout is a kind of big oval so it makes the corners a easier to work with the idea is to use curved points in the fiddle yards at the rear whilst hand made on the front.

The reason i came here to ask is that once plans are designed i can send them to the cabinet maker to build me the baseboards & then start the build. Its only a idea at this stage & i dont know wether anyone has the time to do this . their is around 8 points on the front of the layout not really sure of the rear as of yet i guess a ten road fiddle will be enough.

Anyway if you can help get in touch the design is in the attachment on the bottom for the front of the layout.

Thanks & happy new year

Simon.

I am not too certain what you want here. You are only using straight track and straight A5.5 turnouts. All you need are some A5.5 turnout templates from C&L and you have it done.

Hi Alan,

Simon is looking for someone to wrap that onto a gentle curve, and transition down to sharper curves each end to run round into the fiddle yard. Anyone?

The drawing is I think from the DRail program ( http://www.drail.net/index_en.html ), using RTR turnouts.

regards,

Martin.

Hi Simon,

Unless I'm mistaken (far from unknown :) ), at present you do not have your own copy of Templot?

Under the licence terms for Templot, members of this forum who don't know you can only supply Templot material to you in Templot's own file format (.box file). That means you would need your own copy of Templot in order to see it and print it out.

On the other hand if you know a personal friend who has Templot you can get them to do this plan for you, as it would fall within their "personal use" of the program. Or if someone else does the plan for you, you could get your friend to print it out.

regards,

Martin.

Simon is a good friend of mine, he has helped operate my layout at exhibitions. I assume it would be ok for me to print templates for him?

Alan you have come up with something very similar, this was my best effort , though I only did the scenic section.

Being fairly new to the software I dont know if this would actually be good enough to make track-building templates, some bits are bodged and over-lapped. I'm starting to get it right on my own smaller layouts though:cool:

Hi Russ,

Sure, that's fine. :) But thanks for asking first. The licence terms are designed to protect the income from my intellectual property, but I don't want to put obstacles in the way of its reasonable genuine use.

Martin.

Thanks guys for the help Russ is helping me out with this one basically the layout is a double track im not to sure about the fiddle as it is going to be using some peco standard code 75 curved points for ease & ready availble the front is just the pointwork issues as it will be copperclad the idea is right the dead siding on the left of the page is just a dead end branch the whole layout is based on Rosegrove Burnley as it is today the idea is that the layout is for running large scale length trains on a modern practice track layout. After Russ mentioned a curved layout i felt it may be possible then to shorten the size to 8ft x 8ft or 9ft by 9ft so its smaller more compact but still having good long trains.

Thanks for the help so far its finally coming together.

Simon.
