Hi Martin In Sketchboard I have just tried to draw a rectangle with rounded corners and I am getting an ellipse, I have also tried the ellipse button in case the two items had got transposed, but both are making ellipses. Thanks Phil |

Select the rounded rectangle, click the modify tab, and change the corner dimensions. regards, Martin. |

Hi Phil, That's an "edited" round rectangle. You appear to have been editing the outline. If you click the undo edits button repeatedly you may get back to the original. But it would probably be easier to delete it and add a fresh rounded rectangle. You can then edit the corner radius. 2_111048_540000000.png If you haven't been editing the outline, something has gone very wrong. Please tell me the exact sequence you used to get to the above screenshot. Thanks. regards, Martin. |

Hi Phil, If you add a fresh rounded rectangle you should be able to edit the corner sizes: 2_111115_160000000.png You can edit the outline of any shape by clicking the edit outline... button: 2_111118_190000000.png Red markers appear which you can drag to new position. After clicking the finish button: 2_111119_590000000.png Here are the help notes: 2_111121_060000000.png regards, Martin. |

Phil O wrote:I click on the ADD ITEM, Rounded Rectangle and the ellipse is what I get when I draw it.Hi Phil, Don't click on the edit outline ... button. If you do that it will cease to be a rounded rectangle and will become a multi-sided polygon. Instead, change the corner dimensions to fit within the overall size. Here you can see that the overall width and depth of the rectangle is 69.8 x 36.8 mm, so clearly corner dimensions of 93.9mm are not going to fit, with the result that it looks like an ellipse: 2_120756_080000000.png You probably want to change the corner size to say 10mm or less. The width and depth of the corners can be set separately, although normally they would both be set the same for a radiused corner. I will look again at how the default sizes for the corners are set when first adding a rounded rectangle. Possibly they should be set as a % of the overall size, not in mm. I think you would find that if you added a much larger one it would look ok. I will write a bit more about editing the outlines of sketchboard items later, but that is definitely not what you want to do here. Thanks for posting the sketchboard file. regards, Martin. |

Hi Martin Thanks I have finally got it sorted, I needed to draw it at about 50% larger than I actually did before it started to look like a rectangle, the corners dialogue box was showing 90 odd millimetres, which is why I had the problem. Thank you for highlighting the necessary boxes for me to get it right. Thanks Phil |

Hi Phil, In the end I have re-written the rounded rectangles entirely. Nils's original code was unsatisfactory for our purposes. The corner can no longer have a different width and height, it is now a normal 90deg radius only. It is set as a % of the shorter side, regardless of the size of the rectangle. The default setting is 20%. By setting the radius to a maximum (50% of the side) it is easy to create a full sausage shape of any size: 2_181055_160000000.png In the next Templot program update. Unfortunately this change will mean that if existing sketchboard SK9 files contain rounded rectangles it will not be possible to edit the corner size on them. It would be necessary to delete them and create a new rounded rectangle. Thanks for reporting this problem. regards, Martin. |

That's great Martin, sorry to have put you to so much trouble. To delete it and do it again is no hardship, it's all because of the "Art Deco" signal boxes favoured by the Southern. Phil |
