Dear all,

The latest Templot program update is now available. Version 218b.

Your copy of Templot should update automatically if you restart it and follow the instructions.

If you have any problems with that, see the download and notes at:

 http://templot.com/companion/installation.php

The main change in this update is that I have now added single-sided tandems to the new tools > make 3-way tandem turnout > functions:

For more information please see this page:

 http://templot.com/companion/3_way_tandem_turnouts.php

which I shall be expanding in the next few days.

Plus a few other minor changes and bug-fixes.

regards,

Martin.

Very impressed by the tandem making functions, as I've always struggled with single sided tandems.

However, I hit a problem when playing around with these functions.  I created a single sided left hand tandem based on a C9 REA initial configuration, then started to adjust the timbering.  I shortened some of the through timbers, then made the branch track template the control.  When I attempted to roll rails on the the branch track with Ctrl+F4, the sleepers of the branch track completely disappeared, as the attached image shows.

As soon as I click the screen to de-activate the mouse-controlled roll rails function the sleeper display returns, but for practical purposes the value of the 'roll rails' function has been lost because I can no longer see where the sleepers are being repositioned as I move the mouse.

So far as I can tell, this seems to be related in some way to the tandem making function.  I tried exiting and reloading Templot, loading a previously created box file, making a length of plain track the control and activating the 'roll rails' function, only to find that it worked perfectly in the usual way.

System is a reconditioned HP workstation with Xeon CPU, 12 GB RAM, Quadro 2000 graphics card and running 64-bit Windows 7 Pro OS, rounded out with usual Spectre and Meltdown issues :)

Hi John,

I don't think this is anything to do with the tandems. I think you have accidentally pressed SHIFT+CTRL+F12 to toggle the skeleton mouse draw function, as is evidenced by the single rail edge in your screenshot.

See:

It's obvious that the skeleton function is useless when you need to see the timbers. Some mouse actions do in fact switch the skeleton function off for that reason (e.g. the timber shoving mouse actions) but clearly I have forgotten to include CTRL+F4 in them. It's been that way for at least 15 years, so thanks for finding it and the suggestion I do something about it. :)

Will be fixed in the next program update.

Going back to the tandems:

•The created tandem will be comprised of partial templates. When you work from them in further track planning, for example to create a crossover, the partial-template settings will propagate into your new template. It will be necessary to click the reset derived partial template menu item to return the new template to the normal settings.

But don't inadvertently do that for the tandem templates themselves, if you have deleted them into the control template. Wait until you have done a make from them.

In addition you may find that the geometry > ... exit length > settings are on something other than normal and need to be changed. I should possibly have included them in the reset function. I will look at that too for the next program update.

cheers,

Martin.

Thanks, Martin.

I think you must be right that I accidentally switched on skeleton mouse draw, as I wasn't able to reproduce the roll rails problem I described when I repeated the tandem's creation following exactly the same steps.

I think it's my ham fistedness that has prompted an improvement rather than any deliberate suggestion on my part, but the way you put it does credit to your diplomatic skills!
