Just picked up a BRM as I was waiting for a train, and there was an article about Leyburn station on the Wensleydale line. I don't know if this was coincidence given another member of this forums questions about the WR. It was interesting to see that they had gone down the snow route and some of it looked pretty good, although I think it is hard to pull this off. And I think there might be another article next month, but as a mag I thought that it was rather "moderate" as they say in Yorkshire, but each to there own! Doubt I will be buying another copy. Regards T. |

Thanks for drawing my attention to the article about Leyburn in BRM - I shall have to get a copy at the Harrogate exhibition this weekend. Best wishes, Bob Ellis |

Doubt I will be buying another copy. Absolutely. Of the three 'tabloids; BRM is undoubtedly the weakest. I only get the 'Toddler' each month, seeing no point in purchasing the other two. A pity really, for the late Michael Warner, who founded BRM, really was a delightful chap. We used to talk about this aspect periodically and it saddened him when I used to say that all it needed was a new editor and a new publisher and then it might be a reasonable magazine. After all, as we have seen since Bob Barlow left MRJ, magazines are only as good as their editor Regards Brian Lewis |

Well I don't know Brian. It's not often I buy a magazine nowadays, but when I do it's usually BRM. Of the three "high-street" magazines, BRM is the one which most often links a model with prototype info, or shows an idea which I haven't seen before. After reading the mags for 45 years, some stuff just seems to go round and round again, but I get that impression more often from the other two than from BRM. Maybe a newcomer to railway modelling would see things differently. But it's a very subjective thing. Each to his own. regards, Martin. |

I don't understand why it gets slated so heavily, although I never believe their reviews - I don't think they've ever said something is rubbish even when it plainly is! I don't buy BRM now, but I do still have one of the early-ish ones that rekindled my interest in the hobby - specifically the one that had the "Lofthouse-in-Nidderdale" article. |
